Yeah, sorry Habs fans, you don't have what I want.

The only offer I've heard that could be remotely close is Ottawa's 3/5/Tkachuk.

And I might still say no.

Suzuki and (I assume) Kotkaniemi (KK?) don't add up to that. Would rather Stutzle, Tkachuk and Holtz/Rossi/Sanderson/Drysdale

Ottawa wouldn’t do the deal you are proposing. 3 and 5 is interesting, but I’m not sure the Rangers go for it. Personally, I’m ok with Ottawa picking 3 and 5, but I’d sure love to get Lafreniere.

That’s ok. You guys will likely take him and I hope it works out well. I think it’s nice he’s going to a team that is heading in the right direction rather than a crummy team like Detroit.

You guys are going to have an awesome group of forwards, that’s for sure. Good luck.

There should be no debate. Rangers will draft Lafreniere. An exceptional talent who i seen playing for Canada live and up close, at
the World Junior Hockey Championship. He was on another level against teens his age. He was like a man competing against kids.
Congrats to the Rangers fans on getting the first pick overall.

Lafrenier is the top scorer, but I have a gut feeling that we'll take Byfield since we need better centers, and the team would become more diverse like NYC really is.

We have Kreider, Buchnevic, Panarin, and Lemieux at LW already, and really just Fast and Kakko on RW. If Buchnevic or Krieder plays RW, we still need a real 2C. Mika is obviously our 1C and Chytil is passable, but is really a 3/4C. Howden and Strome are completely expendable, and Byfield would be a huge addition to the team.
Who cares if the team is more diverse, that shouldn't even be a consideration.

Why are people getting in the weeds over this? Lafreniere has been talked about as the next big thing for two years now. This isn't contest where the players are on even levels, so you take the position of need. This is a franchise cornerstone player who, while not generational in the manner of Crosby or McDavid, is also levels above Hall.

This team has never selected 1st overall in the history of the modern draft format which began in 1969. Going for need over BPA is usually a bad idea, but certainly is when you are looking at a once in 50 year opportunity. This team has been building the right way for a few years now. They have many assets. We have a filthy C in Zibanejad who was playing arguably better hockey than anyone for a pretty good stretch last season. Chytil is a baby at only 20 years of age...he could certainly become a legit 2nd line C to slot in behind. If they don't want to wait, or he doesn't work out, they can deal some assets to obtain a 2nd line C from outside the organization. Buchnevich, Strome, Kreider, D'Angelo, Georgiev and others have significant value, and could be dealt to add depth down the middle or for LD. We have another 1st round pick that has great value. Bottom line is the experts are unanimous in who the #1 pick in the 2020 draft should be. That's who we should take. We'll worry about the rest later. Things are very good in Rangerland.

The Twitter account literally posted Laf and Gorton basically said as much without going over the line. It's been a done deal for any team who won the lottery.

Oh, definitely, you know how Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has more value than Patrick Kane. After all, both were 1OA.
I’m comparing him to Taylor Hall. You guys (those I’m arguing with) are comparing him to Lindros, McDavid (lol), and Matthews. Ask yourself who’s being unreasonable.

Now I get it. You guys seem to think wingers and centers have the same value. Makes sense now.

You don't know me then.

But great players are great players and those who are not, are not.

Hall isn't as good as Matthews because he's not as good, not because he's a winger. And Ovechkin is better than Matthews despite the fact he's not a winger.

Laf is more Matthews tier than Hall.

So your offer isn't good enough.

He's not McDavid, but he's not Hall either.

He's in between. That's Matthews/Tavares territory. Patrick Kane, if you want a winger, maybe.

No one is comparing him to McDavid or Lindros, but he's drawn plenty of comparison in terms of talent level as Matthews in scouting circles. He's also levels above Hall in the same scouting circles. He's an elite talent, which is mentioned in every friggin' one of his scouting reports.

No one cares, we aren't trading Lafreniere for Kotkaniemi, Romanov, 1st, and whatever other crap you want to throw in the deal.

I mean, the first overall so rarely gets traded anyway. It takes a massive offer just to get the conversation started. Usually the team picking first keeps the pick. I fully expect that’s what you guys will do.

Who are the best wingers outside of Ovechkin? Kane... Hall... Kucherov... Those are MVP caliber guys. It’s not a slight.

That’s his potential.

You mean we shouldn't be handing him over to the Canadiens for a lot of solid but hardly franchise-changing assets?

Tempting, but no, you guys should probably just pick the kid and watch him turn into a star on Broadway.
