Nah taking the consensus and him not ending up the best would be so RangersLafreniere. Passing up on the consensus #1 would be so Rangers.
Lafreniere unless the offer to trade down is excessive enough to warrant it. 3+5 would do it for me I think.
I prefer them to keep the pick and take the no brainer selection. This organization has a lengthy track record of screwing up other scenarios.I love Byfield and think with time he could be just as dangerous of a player as Lafreniere.
But kind of like last year, Lafreniere hasn't done anything to lose his spot at the top of the draft. You gotta go with the top guy.
Now, having said that, if Ottawa calls and offers up picks 3 and 5, I'd really have to give that some serious consideration.
Kakko will be fine. The talent and work ethic are there in spades.I refuse to get my hopes up for a prospect again after the rookie year Kakko had.

You could see the brilliance in flashes. It's consistency and being able to handle a full season. I'm not too concerned about Kakko, but his rookie season was abysmal no doubt.I refuse to get my hopes up for a prospect again after the rookie year Kakko had.

at #1 you take Laf and there is no question...if you want someone else, then you trade down and get other assets.
also you aren't getting byfield by trading down to 3 & 5 (which ottawa wouldn't do anyway) but you would then need a 2nd deal to move up to #2 cause LA is taking byfield. if you trade down to 3 & 5, you are looking at Stutzle and ? which certainly isn't bad but I don't see us getting Byfield in either scenario if that is the hope.
2 and 5 would be a different story for me. But 3 and 5 I'm not so sure...the difference between the 2nd and 3rd pick is often pretty big.
