Not sure if this is the correct place to put this but here I go...

I was pretty bored today so I thought it would be fun to see how Quebec and Canadas team would match up IF Quebec were to become their own country (Not saying they will, this is just for fun). If you disagree feel free to comment what you would change in these rosters.

Quebec Roster:
Alex Tanguay - Paul Stastny - Patrice Bergeron
Jonathan Huberdeau - Mike Ribeiro - Jason Pominville
Jonathan Drouin - Derick Brassard - Anthony Duclair
David Perron - Antoine Vermette - Anthony Mantha
Alexandre Burrows

Marc-Edouard Vlasic - Kristopher Letang
Francois Beauchemin - Jason Demers
Marco Scandella - David Savard
Simon Despres

Roberto Luongo
Corey Crawford
Marc-Adnre Fleury

Canada Roster:
Jamie Benn - Sidney Crosby - Steven Stamkos
Taylor Hall - Jonathan Toews - Jeff Carter
Joe Thronton - Ryan Getzlaf - Corry Perry
Tyler Seguin - John Tavares - Ryan O’Rielly
Connor McDavid

Duncan Keith - Shea Weber
PK Subban - Drew Doughty
Mark Giordano - Brent Burns
Pietrangalo

Carey Price
Brayden Holtby
Brian Elliott

My Notes:
While Canada's roster looks by far the better team Quebec looks like they have a decent team that would compete with many european teams. Furthermore they have lots of great young proven talent on their 3/4 lines.

Team Canada Questionables
Ryan O’Rielly - He can be swapped with anyone of your choice, I thought he was a good competitor for this spot.
Connor McDavid - Because hes Connor McDavid.
Brian Elliot - If he plays like he has been in these playoffs theres no way he doesn't deserve to be at least the 3rd string for Canada.

Anyways feel free to comment and change the teams in any way you like!

Well your number one center for Quebec is actually American. Born in Quebec because his Slovak father was playing for Nordiques at the time. But American for sure.

This Quebec team would have a hard time tbh...
Sweden,Finland, Russia, and a couple others are all much better.

This thread is for hockey talk only.

This thread is not for political talk or "this will never happen!" talk.

oops, would he be allowed to play since he was born there?

Would depend on Quebec's theoretical citizenship rules and also on the IIHF's apparently random enforcement of the rule to require players to spend two years in a local league.

Quebec would be competitive in major hockey tournaments that's for sure. Not favorite but Competitive.

A 90's version of this team would be sick though.

Luc Robitaille-Mario Lemieux-Kevin Dineen
Stephan Matteau-Denis Savard-Stephen Richer
Joe Juno-Pierre Turgeon-Scott Mellanby
Martin Gelinas-Vincent Damphousse-Claude Lemieux

Ray Bourque-Kevin Lowe
Eric Desjardins-Garry Galley
Sylvain Côte-Steve Duchesne

Patrick Roy
Martin Brodeur
Felix Potvin

It would obviously not be a first tier team but it would be fairly competitive and certainly good enough to shoot for an upset.

And frankly, as a québécois (and before someone jumps me, I don't claim to speak for all of them), I would take a greater pride in having a full team there, albeit a weaker one, than having only one or two Quebec players competing for a Team Canada I would struggle to identify with.

It would be a thrill for me to see this team on the ice.

I think they'd be just behind Finland in depth. They could beat anybody even if they weren't the favorite.

Unlike Stastny, Pominville would belong on team Quebec far more than he does on team USA. Pominville was born and raised in Quebec.

Indeed I think there's a good chance that if there was a Quebec national team Pominville might have picked it over the states

My guess is that the ones who has already represented Canada but would end up with Quebec citizenship would be able to represent Quebec. I doubt that they would need to play 2 years in Quebec to be able to represent "their own" national team.

* * *

Also, remember that Quebec would need to start in the World Championship D3, so it would take at least six years until they were to play in the top division.

Oh I'm sure no problem for guys like Patrice Bergeron or whatever. We were talking about someone like Stastny who was born there but moved to the states as a child.

Most likely. I assume that Pominville would have chosen Canada as well, had Hockey Canada ever extended him an offer. Someone like Stastny has little connection to Quebec though.

No Stastny would almost certainly never play for Quebec.

i always wondered what Quebec would do with the Montreal Canadiens if they became a country

how irrelevant and odd would that name be? lol

I dunno, there's the Ole Miss Rebels. Let alone the Washington Redskins etc.

Doubt much would change.

Nope. a few players listed have played for non-canadian countries in international level games, PS while born in Quebec spent most of his childhood in the states and declared his flag YEARS ago

curious to know how Alberta, BC and Ontario teams would look. If we are going to split up the country lets do it properly

Why don't they create an off-season tournament between provinces like the Brier Cup in Curling? Call it Canada Cup and get provinces try and ice the best teams to compete for it.

Highly doubtful that the players would want to participate and that anyone would be interested in picking up the insurance bill.
