If Ottawa misses the playoffs, do you think Brady Tkachuk will ask for a trade?

What do you think?

Yea, especially after his brother left his team and saw immediate success. Yes, the Flames had an older core and their best player had just left but seven straight years of an early offseason is frustrating for any player. I dont think he want to spend his prime years watching the playoffs from the comfort of his home.

He won't be. He will either be at this brother's place in Ft. Lauderdale or sitting in the stands cheering his brother on.

want to bet? I know it hurts that the senators are trash, try to hold those tears back.
Why would I bet? They're not very good, I realize, but how can you claim to know they'll miss when they're 4 points out of a wildcard? Or are you just blowing things out your ass to get a reaction?

After seeing how his brother didn’t want to be in Calgary long term after having some playoff success I’m going to say yes he’ll ask for a trade. He’s a more important piece for the franchise as a whole than Matthew was for Calgary (not a better player) but Ottawa still won’t have made the playoffs in his 8 years there or whatever it’s been. At a certain point you gotta be frustrated to the point of legitimately wanting out and in sure he’s already been close to that a few times. Ottawa as a whole hasn’t made sense to me the last few years, on paper they’ve consistently looked better than their record always is so there’s gotta be something deeper going on beyond just bad goaltending and coaching.

Do you mean because he is Captain? Tim Stutzle is easily the best player, Jake Sanderson too even though he has a disappointing start for his standards. Tkachuk is very impactful but he's more in the Batherson/Chabot tier than Stu/Jake

DJ Smith seems like a nice guy, maybe perfect as an assistant but as a head coach he probably hurt the players development more than anything. They developed bad habits that have been hard to get rid of. Any team under DJ could not play 2-way hockey at all. It was either they were good offensively or defensively, they very rarely did both at the same time.

After 3 weeks of Jacques Martin coaching, they had a 0.558 P% (22-17-4) to finish the season after January 18th, but most importantly, they were starting to play "the right way" as would attest the very good advanced stats (7th best xGF% in the last 43 games)

Now with a new GM in the offseason, hired new coaching (Jacques Martin too old to coach a full season), they are starting anew. They are doing a lot of good things as they dominate most games (6th in CF% and SF%, 12th in xGF%) but they have a big problem : 27th in PDO

Outside of a few guys (Stutzle, Batherson, Tkachuk, Norris, Giroux, Gaudette), nobody is capable of putting the puck in the net right now so no depth scoring at all. And the goalies have to do a much better job as usual. Ullmark seems to be getting in the zone though as he has been very good in his last 4 starts.

So outside of the reasons you named (although too early to tell about coaching), the depth is just awful once again. They have to play Hamonic way too much in every game because Zub is injured. Other players stats with or without him are absolutely hilarious. And the forward group... I was not a fan of Perron, Amadio, Gregor signings (and paying to move Joseph).

Yeah I was mostly referring to Tkachuk being more important because he’s captain. But he’s also been a big part of the team pretty much the whole time he’s been there and came into a young rebuilding team vs Matthew who came into a team that already had lots of solid veteran players.

Yeah seems like years of mismanagement after the initial tear down and build back up played a big part in the depth problem. Trading away first rounders before even being a playoff team is usually not a great idea for playoff teams but Ottawa has done it 3 times and 2 of those were traded away after 1 or 2 seasons for significantly less than what they paid. Not exactly sure who they could’ve drafted with the picks used to acquire Debrincat and Chychrn but the general rule still applies regardless of the exact circumstances.
