Steen - Zetterberg - Rakell
Landeskog - Rask - Lindholm (Ok, lets drop Backlund)

Ekholm - Karlsson
Hedman - Hjalmarsson
OEL - Lindholm

Lundqvist
Lehner

Is this team good enough to fight Canada, USA and Russia?

It definately is. Their D is so much better than what Russia has to offer and I think they are way harder to beat than Russia. So I'm actually ranking Sweden ahead of Russia and feel they are very close to USA and Canada. Oh, and as someone else say: in a single elimination game anything can happen.

of course they would be. strong contenders, along with Canada. The Americans would come in as a minor favorite.

NHL should immediately name a no gimmick World Cup for 2020 with 8 teams.

pissed that NHLers won't be at the Olympics.

If I was making odds, I would give Sweden the 2nd best chance of winning gold.

In a few years they could struggle with goaltending, however, as they don't have much after Lundqvist. I think the US will surpass them soon as well, once Matthews & Eichel hit their primes.

Linus Söderström is really promising, but obviously too early to know if he'll become elite.

8 teams and one groupe)
like 76)

All it takes is an upset of Canada and all the other top teams have a fairly equal shot.

Of course upsetting Canada has been easier said then done lately.

Those players will outperform anything Canada or the US can put on the ice.

Russia is another story though, will depend on the mood of the day.

What makes you think that this Team Sweden does not have what it takes in a 7 game-series against Canada, USA and Russia?

Canada did not win in CC 1981, World Cup 1996, Olympics 1998 and 2006.

All of which are single elimination, a hot goalie/bad goalie can win or lose you any game.

It's much harder to steal a seven game series, in single elimination anything can happen but statistically it's more unlikely when you have to have an upset 4 times.

It pains me to say this as a Finn, but I truly believe that Sweden would be in the gold medal game for the next Olympics if the NHL players were there. I'm not saying they play the best style of hockey, but they are so damn skilled it's still incredible to watch.

For me:(top 5 best in the world)

Forwards: 1. Russia 2. Canada 3. Sweden 4. USA 5. Finland
Defense: 1. Sweden 2. Canada 3. USA 4. Finland 5. Russia
Goaltending: 1. Canada 2. Finland 3. Sweden 4. Russia 5. USA
Teamplay: 1. Canada 2. Sweden 3. Finland 4. Russia 5. USA

Lol, what? I understand that anything can happen in a single game elimination tournament, but you can't seriously believe that the lineup in OP of this thread is more talented than anything Canada could put together.

Why drop Backlund, and I can see that Klingberg still gets underrated. He has been easily swedens best d-men in both whc he has played in, and this whc we showed that those so called defensivly d-men is not needed at all to play good defense.

Bu the topics question, off course? Why would sweden not be?
