If NHLers go to the Olympics next year, who on your team make their national team?

Keep in mind that without the young stars club there is going to be more competition for USA and Canada spots, so your marginal JVR type guys are probably not going to make it, and almost certainly not Dubinsky, who has fallen off.

From the Jackets, I'd guess:

Russia - Bobrovsky
Finland - Nutivaara
Sweden - Wennberg
USA - Werenski+Jones, Saad, Foligno (okay, not sure if they'll take Foligno, but they would if they knew a damned thing).

NYR:

Definitely:

Lundqvist-Sweden
McDonagh-USA
Zuccarello-Norway

Likely:

Stepan-USA
Hrivik-Slovakia

A Chance:

Raanta-Finland
Buchnevich-Russia
Zibanejad-Sweden
Hayes-USA
Kreider-USA
Miller-USA
Skjei-USA

Any Finn who's an NHL regular by Christmas next year definitely has a shot. Habs fans in this thread are selling Lehkonen short, and Jets fans are doing the same for Armia.

Of course, if it's about listing locks only, it's a different story.

I'm not going to try to break down based on likelihood just who I could see potentially making it onto a team/taxi squad

:canes

Team USA
Justin Faulk
Jaccob Slavin

Team Sweden
Victor Rask
Elias Lindholm

Team Canada
Jeff Skinner

Team Finland
Sebastian Aho
Teuvo Teravainen

Some are obviously more long shots than others but I could at least see those guys being in the conversation for their respective teams.

Matthews and JvR for USA.
Zaitsev for Russia.
Nylander for Sweden.
Komarov for Finland.
Marincin for Slovakia.

Marner and Rielly could one day play for Canada, but I don't think they'll make it yet.

Komarov has retired from the NT.

Raanta is nowhere near the games. Also seriously doubting Nutivaara, TT and Armia for team Finland.

He wouldn't be the first player to return come the olympic time. Something tells me he's simply done with those annual WHC calls, but is still available for any bigger events.

None of these names is a lock, but...

Raanta does have a shot of being the third goalie.
Given our current defense situation, any regular or even semi-regular NHL d-man is going to get a look. While we have a ton of solid prospects in the pipeline, not many if any of them will be ready a year from now.
And both TT and Armia have quite realistic chances too.

Of course leonsis is going to support ovechkin. He's the star player. You don't tell your star player to eat ****. So the question is what the league does to punish a player in breach of contract. I don't know what the CBA allows but you know the caps won't want him suspended or his contract terminated and they aren't going to be the bad guy for the NHL.

Anaheim Ducks players on current rosters chances to make Olympic teams:

Locks:
Ryan Kessler (USA)
Hampus Lindholm (Sweden)
Jakob Silfverberg (Sweden)
Sami Vatanen (Finland)
Korbinian Holzer (Germany)

Probable:
Ryan Getzlaf (Canada)
Rickard Rakell (Sweden)
John Gibson (USA)
Ondrej Kase (Czech Republic)

Possible:
Corey Perry (Canada)

Extremely Outside Chance:
Shea Theodore (Canada)
Nate Thompson (USA)
Chris Wagner (USA)
Teemu Selanne (Finland) (If he decided to make a comeback, which he won't)

Fowler?

Fairly safe bet that it will resemble the World Cup teams:

Canada
Jeff Carter
Drew Doughty
Jake Muzzin

USA
Jonathan Quick
Dustin Brown - maybe

Slovenia
Anze Kopitar

Slovakia
Marian Gaborik
