If the NHL season doesn’t start before the WJC do you think we will see Lafreniere, Kakko, Hughes, Dach, other top prospects who would be playing in the NHL in the WJC?
I believe any surefire NHLers will not be risked at the WJC. Everyone you listed there is in that boat.

Not so sure. Having these kids coming into camp in top form isn't such a bad thing. Fully developed players going to the WHC has little to no benefit for the NHL clubs (albeit with a decreased risk), but the guys are still given the opportunity to go.

That's guaranteed to the players in the CBA, and even then many organizations are trying to keep their star players from going.

They will likely be in training camp if the season starts on January 1. Guys with a full time role, like Kakko, won't be there unless COVID kills the NHL's plans.

Kakko and Laf will not play. McKenzie hinted on twitter that he wouldnt expect Laf to be there when training camp will likely begin before the tournament. Kakko has already won WJC and WC gold and has an NHL season under his belt. Rangers would prefer Kakko continues to develop his body and be ready for camp/season.
