If it's not Jack Campbell who should be the Leafs new #1 goalie?

Um no, you weren't. But age aside, your stellar House League career is meaningless. I know your Mum still has all of your participation trophies but they mean even less now than they did back then. But I'm sure they look nice in your old bedroom.

Some will, some won't. But whether they do or not is completely and utterly irrelevant to the discussion at hand. You do not have insider access, so stop pretending that you do. And even if you actually did ( ), they wouldn't be feeding information to someone like you who would be posting about it on an internet forum.

So get over yourself, and go back to polishing your House League participation trophies.

What was said?

Riddled, not rittled (not even a word).

That aside, do we really want to go down the same road that we just got off?
thanks Jim

at this point would it surprise anyone if they circle back to Mrazek? Probably get him for a 5th.
The only thing that can save us from Murray is not having up to date medical information, which, with the Sens, there's a good opportunity they're not there.

Only if Murray is the only pickup. But there is almost zero chance it will be Murray and nothing but if they are combing through Murray's medicals.
If we get another guy that does bring some more confidence for me. Just having a backup would be amazing.

Looking at Carolina, they brought two new goalies, with the ability to play solidly. Andersen was their 1A, Raanta 1B but both could play. Look at their playoffs, Andersen went down but they were still able to compete and win a round, if Campbell went down, mrazek makes us lose in 5. They only issue with both of them was injuries, which is similar to our case

If we can somewhat emulate that kinda tandem, where we have two semi-reliable goaltenders with one being Murray, then our 3 and 4 being kallgren and woll, then It would bode well imo

I grew up in the '80s too and yes, there were. I played rep and got them from some tournaments in which we sucked (and that despite having a future 1000 game NHL player on our team). And our House League most definitely handed them out - I've seen them and have a bunch of friends who received them.

It was nothing like today, but they most definitely existed.
I only recall those "participation badges" handed out for school exercise program where you'd either get a gold, sliver, bronze or that "particpation badge" lol For Hockey it was trophies but never participation ribbons or whatevs lol and,..this is the 60's and 70's I'm talking about not the 80's haha

Looked to me like Matty's stick hitting da ice when he swept and missed at puck .. but he made a great effort to get back .. no shame there .. folks you can't have peewee house league level tending in any playoff game never mind game 7 .. we all love Soup but as a tender it is time to move on and find a money tender

At this point Matthews has already swatted at the puck and Gallagher still has control of it thru the stick check with a open shooting lane.

This is definitely a stop Campbell needed to make.

100%, just brutal.
I remember when we were on the other side of those game 7 breaks against Ottawa and Lalime.
So long ago.

Ribbons, trophies, it doesn't really matter when they served the same purpose.

That being said, there were ribbons too. I was cleaning out a box of old crap a couple of years back and found tournament participation ribbons from when I played House League my first two years of hockey (ages 6 & 7) before making the jump to AAA. And that was in the '70s (I came out of high school in '87 so was a kid in the '70s).

Eye test also susceptible to bias, numbers are empirical
Any expected number is by definition subjective and susceptible to the bias of whatever community college dropout collecting those stats is watching the game in between eating twelve slices. With the eye test, at least you only have to deal with your own subjectivity.
Buyout window closes tomorrow. lol
This is the first buyout window, though no doubt they want Murray's future settled now.
Goaltending didn't let them down in game 7.
You still need someone who can outplay the opposing goalie in elimination games. 2-10 in six years (if my math is right) doesn't cut it.

Might as well make a three way deal with Ott and Vegas to round up the Soo connection

To Leafs- Murray (50% retention) Lehner, Brown, Hague

To Vegas - (an opportunity to go after Keumper) Holl with 50 percent retention

To Ottawa - (an opportunity to sign Campbell) and a promise that no Leaf fan will enter their arena, the rights to sign Mikeyhev

:)

I think the Dubas criticism is pretty warranted at this point. It's not that he doesn't have a plan, it's that by all indications the plan sucks.

Doesn't seem to be a feasible way to make the goaltending and team much better at this point. And we're talking about a team that hasn't been successful with depth and solid goaltending. Now the leafs likely won't have either.

Still could breakthrough with a 'lesser' team on paper but it's feeling more and more like spinning tires, band aid fixes and shuffling deck chairs at this point. I don't see a vision for improvement from this management that they once had.

Look I am not sure what Dubas is doing here, but one thing is clear. Between this board and the mains, people have lost their minds. Not everything has worked out, but one reason I like Dubas is there is ALWAYS logic to his moves. There is always a plan. You can tell what he is thinking, and why he did it. Compared to a lot of other GM's where you are left questioning what they are thinking.

So why would Dubas, someone detail oriented, with his job maybe on the line, leroy jenkins himself into a terrible contract? The answer is because they know something we don't. Either the trade will make us a better team with what Ottawa is willing to pay to take him, or he has moves lined up that will all make sense.

This is likely the Leafs seeing something others don't, thinking Murray can find his game again if used right. If Dubas traded for Gibson people would be jumping up and down, except Gibson also sucked for 3 years, hasn't won anything, and would cost us a lot.

Murray if he rebounds is a cup winning goalie, who won B2B cups and was lights out in the playoffs. Getting paid to take him if it works out is a genius move vs paying top prospects ++ for a similar goalie based on nothing but name recognition.

Dubas ending up with a good asset and Murray at 2-3.5 AAV + a goalie signed to 1-2M will keep the cap the same as last year, but completely retool our goaltending along with all the other changes being made in the goalie departments.

Use your brains. Don't let haters and trolls get to you. Dubas has never made a move that didn't have logic behind it.

Yep, because no one knows whether he will still be on IR come the second buyout window. That's a game they can't play if they are serious about moving him.

But as you say, not only does Ottawa want/need to settle Murray's future now, and the Leafs can't be waiting for the second buyout window. So going beyond tomorrow basically leaves Ottawa with no suitors, and they will either be forced to buy him out during the second window (if healthy), or keep him and his cash obligations for at least one more season, escalating his cost to the organization.

Toronto does have some leverage here as they can pivot elsewhere.

I think it's been warranted for the best part of three years. There were quite a number of fans that have seen this coming a mile off.

I would be very happy with Allen but I remember reading somewhere that the Habs said he isn't going anywhere due to potential issues with Price's health.

Not entirely.

Christ have you never heard "there are lies, damned lies, and statistics"?
All numbers can be manipulated. That is a fact.

i don't know how anyone could be willing to gamble long term on jack after this past season. but if the oilers want to give him 5-6 + a season 3-4 i could understand but i would still have a hard time offering that just due to his play from December to march this past season

I doubt the Leafs could expect 0 cap dollars coming back in either of those hypotheticals but I would be confident you could get clear of both and receive value back at a modest to decent price. Muzzin would be a McDonagh type player on a shorter deal but more injury questions. Tavares’ main problem is he doesn’t bring enough value and blocks us from finishing the puzzle. But for many teams there will be value there.
I agree but this guys proposals all hinge on taking no salary back. It’s totally unrealistic if not impossible

How do you know that? How can you speak in absolutes when you are only a fan? the answer is you can't , I appreciate your confidence but doubt your knowledge. How can you know what the needs or the motivations are of any one of the 31 GM's? A top 6 play making center in your opinion has such little value, the Leafs would have to retain money to trade him? Your theory sounds tenuous at best.
Then again, please tell me which team will take on 11M in salary with no money going back!!

It’s not impossible but I don’t see any team doing that and don’t even think it’s in the realm of what’s even remotely possible

I think our biggest issue RE: Goaltending is that the current organizational philosophy is that we want a tandem but we also don't want to spend a lot on it.

That's why we were offering Jack 2.75 mil..

In the 4 years of dubas we've gone

Freddy and trash (5.8)
Freddy and hutch/half szn of jack (6.2ish high end)
Freddy and jack 6.8
Petr and Jack 5.6
And tried to go 6.5 when we offered jack 2.7

We're obviously capping ourselves at a number which is why you can't go with a tandem because that number is so low you're ending up with 2 mediocre goalies unless you strike gold
