If it's not Jack Campbell who should be the Leafs new #1 goalie?

Keumper to Washington is interesting because the Caps don't have a lot of cap space.

If he goes that that could open the door to Samsonov being available. A trade around him and Holl might make sense since Washington only has 5 defensemen under contract and Holl provides solid value in a bottom pairing role where he'd play.

Everyone know Holland is going to give Campbell what he wants and overpay for him. Good luck to both of them. Leafs cannot pay $5M for campbell. Leafs getting Murray at 3.2M and they keep him healthy is good value.
So we were down to these two options? Strange, because if I posited that this off season we would get Matt Murray say back in March, this place would have laughed me out of the building, now it’s “good value”.

Sure hope it works out, but I thought an astute comment today on TSN, so this off season the Leafs divest themselves of a goalie to take a goalie another team wants to divest themselves of. It’s a weird end game no?

Anyways, I’ll cheer for the guy come the season, I just don’t have to like what’s happening.

Who knows? At this point it really does look like they are just making it up as the go along.
It really seems like it.

This is so cringe

For better or worse, this Leafs regime is high on loyalty.

Despite a lack of playoff success, extensions and promotions have been granted to core members of the roster, the coaching staff, and the brass.

Guys like Hyman, Gardiner, van Riemsdyk, Bozak, Andersen, Kadri, Brown, Kapanen, Johnsson, Marleau, Zaitsev, Komarov were all treated as disposable end of contract throwaways or disposable cap casualties in order to facilitate the too heavy construction of the team, to say nothing of cameos and projects who came through for a one and done.

It is what it is in the cap world.

Obviously its a major risk because he's had injury rittled seasons. If they get a proper plan in place and they keep him healthy, he's a decent option. Question is can they do it with him. They are likely betting on their medical staff, new goaltending coach, better defense, etc to make this look like a good acqusition. Only time will tell.

Dubas and co. cant have another off-season goaltending blunder, that's all I'll say.

Goaltending didn't let them down in game 7.

Sounds like Murray will be one of our goalies after listening to Scott Wheeler. Would we get Murray at 50% retained? So pay him $3.1 and then find another goalie for a tandem?

Relax my friend .. I am 58 and playing hockey likely since before you were born

Um no, you weren't. But age aside, your stellar House League career is meaningless. I know your Mum still has all of your participation trophies but they mean even less now than they did back then. But I'm sure they look nice in your old bedroom.

.. hockey buddies stay friends for life my friend

Some will, some won't. But whether they do or not is completely and utterly irrelevant to the discussion at hand. You do not have insider access, so stop pretending that you do. And even if you actually did ( ), they wouldn't be feeding information to someone like you who would be posting about it on an internet forum.

So get over yourself, and go back to polishing your House League participation trophies.

Riddled, not rittled (not even a word).

That aside, do we really want to go down the same road that we just got off?

I find some of the points in this article to be frustrating to process even though generally agree. The Leafs are a “loyal” organization to the Big 4 vision and the “we can and we will” sound bite about their contracts but not to the average Leaf.

The sheer body count of Leafs who have been shown the exit in trade and UFA walk always in order to the top heavy salary structure work is pretty massive and grows every year until the Tavares contract is finally up. Campbell would be the latest if he were to leave.

So overpay average players? What is the solution? Who did you want at their current cap hit?

Since I am 1 year older than Da real..I can vouch and say,...there were "no participation badges" handed out back then.
But you are totally right and possibly might win that game of scrabble (rittled) ;)

So if we’re getting Murray, we have to assume the backup Woll/Kall option is out the window, you will need a tandem and/or someone who can take the reigns if this doesn’t work out/injury.

I've posted this before, and have absolutely no basis whatsoever for it except a growing gut instinct, but I think they are going to trade for Murray and then sign Kuemper for less than everyone expects him to get. Murray as backup and Kuemper as starter I could get behind, provided the eye issue is done.

Either that or they trade for Blackwood and do a true tandem.

More and more looks like we will go with two goalies. It sure will lead to some interesting nights. I think $5M is too much at 5 years or whatever. Injury issues and not mentally tough enough. Just my opinion.

I grew up in the '80s too and yes, there were. I played rep and got them from some tournaments in which we sucked (and that despite having a future 1000 game NHL player on our team). And our House League most definitely handed them out - I've seen them and have a bunch of friends who received them.

It was nothing like today, but they most definitely existed.

You could hear the deflection off AM's stick....
Looked to me like Matty's stick hitting da ice when he swept and missed at puck .. but he made a great effort to get back .. no shame there .. folks you can't have peewee house league level tending in any playoff game never mind game 7 .. we all love Soup but as a tender it is time to move on and find a money tender
