If it's not Jack Campbell who should be the Leafs new #1 goalie?

This is what’s interesting with the Murray rumours. I really dislike the idea of him starting (im guessing he’s a backup here), but rather than pay assets in a trade or ufa, you acquire An asset with the goalie

So gamble on murray bounce back (super nervous) but get an asset back? Has to be a good asset but that’s an intriguing play given what’s out there in free agency
The one caveat with Murray, the Sens were atrocious defensively, it was actually hard to watch our games with them, offered little insight into reality to gauge our play. So, his numbers there I don’t take too seriously, but he’s still a big gamble. I mean it could work out, it costs little, and Dubas could look the genius in the end. Like you said, if it fails, he can go elsewhere and get something. It’s just not good to be this unsettled in net for a cup contender, not in this market, which isn’t being acknowledged. Shit can snowball quickly here.

Makes sense. I think waiting on a buyout for next year would make sense anyways.

I don't think they're going to be as desperate as people think however. They're not going to give him away with A+ assets and retention
The Sens are a weird team. I don't know what they will do.
What's a major sweetener?

I think the plan B would be Woll, if he remains health, as backup. Kallgren is the plan C

That's my spit all speculation
I think I like that too, but both come with some risk and you add in the starter uncertainty, man it’s precarious.

With all of this resignation to the Leafs probably going into the 2022-23 season with downgraded goaltending I believe it's forgotten that there are probably only 2 more years before the band breaks up due to free agency. Are we really going to toss away the next two playoffs with one of the lineup's key positions filled by a project or a retread or at best an average starter?

It’s a valid point, we’re still experimenting at the peak of our “window”.

Very precarious.
My hope is plan A is Gibson starting Murray backup, but I haven't taken my morning meds yet hahahaha
Gibson would be my top choice too, if it’s realistic or hes even available.

It appears as if that's the goalie market at the moment. Unless you can list other options

Actually, it's most likely the Leafs improve on the 8th worst goaltending they got last season.

We've got a good decade left of contending.

If anything Dubas has to acquire/sign 3 NHL experienced goalies of various degrees before the season breaks. 2 to compete realistically to become the team's starter and a 3rd to be a backup if and when one of these speculative signings falter. In the unlikely event that Woll or Kallgren steps up and wrestles away the starting job, we can just be happy at our good fortune.

Dreger just said deal should be done soon for Murray pending on medical approval. 3 teams involved to get max retension

Was a first round pick swap for 25% I would assume it diminishes in value if it's 50
It sound like they are sending brown to Arizona and they eat 25% of Murray's cap too

I believe in the end that Dubas and his data obsessed acolytes don't respect the role goalies play in championship teams' success. They see them as replaceable cogs and unstable units they're unable to perform deep analysis on. How often have I've seen the post that goalies are "voodoo" which is code for "we're smart but we don't know how to predict the performance of a goalie."

What's funny is how quiet they are on what signing Darcy Kuemper / re-signing Jack Campbell to big contracts would do for the Leafs?

I guess they need to find out what Dubas does first before actually formulating an opinion of their own.

In the meantime let's try and pretend that not having both a starter and a backup entering a weak UFA martket is a total stroke of genius!
Evidently there will be lots and lots of mad people on this board if Campbell is brought back anywhere close to the reported AAVs. Over 70% of the participants in the survey I created earlier in the summer only wanted Jack back if he came in at 4 million on lower. It seems likely the goalie market has shifted but still pretty telling of earlier summer expectations

He was just on the radio saying that
Appreciate it thanks

We basically f***ed around and found out. I assume we probably would have gotten him at like 4x3.5 last summer

Link please is possible

Edit: really hope they aren't sending Brown to play in a college arena....

All these posters whining and complaining about the goaltenders.....and yet when you ask them repeatedly who they should have got, the only answer is silence.

All you top rate GM's, give me your picks so I can tear them apart.

I have a feeling none of the goalie Dubas was targeting have been taken off the board yet so hopefully he still has a plan or another key year will be thrown in the trash

Nailed it.

"If it can't be measured accurately without watching the game, it must not matter!" is basically the mantra for the blogger/Twitter stats world.

Ideally the retention drives the price down to 25% of $6.25M ($1.56M aav) allowing another NHL goaltender to be acquired/signed to make the best of poor situation.
