If it's not Jack Campbell who should be the Leafs new #1 goalie?

The longer Dubas waits, the more leverage Campbell gets.

Husso, Gibson, Varlamov, Fleury already (reportedly) off the market.
The more leverage the sens get as well

Get to July 14 without a goalie and it might be Murray at 10% retention

So Talbot Blackwood Campbell and Keumper are on the market, but how many teams are looking for a goalie...TOR EDM and WAS.

So it looks like a goalie will be left behind not a team looking for a goalie.

Matt Murray as an option ain't going anywhere. But it should be Plan C or D.

None of us really know whether a perfectly decent goalie is hiding in plain sight from teams that were terrible in 2021-22.

But again, finding a decent or even good goalie, like Campbell and Andersen were, isn't going to cut it to achieve the loftier goals of this team.

Oh who gives a f**k. Let's deal with reality, not some bullshit stat that isn't based in reality.
Stats, because of their numeric nature are inherently based in reality.

The eye test is what isn't based in reality. It's based solely on perception.

What!? What I’m saying is no team would take that money on without taking any money back. Not one team. I understand you said willing trade partners but what I’m saying is there are no willing trade partners for that type of deal, so you’re whole exercise is futile. You’re operating in a fantasy land…

How do you know that? How can you speak in absolutes when you are only a fan? the answer is you can't , I appreciate your confidence but doubt your knowledge. How can you know what the needs or the motivations are of any one of the 31 GM's? A top 6 play making center in your opinion has such little value, the Leafs would have to retain money to trade him? Your theory sounds tenuous at best.

I agree. There is always a GM who would make that deal.
The issue is getting JT to waive his trade clause. If you do that, deals are there.

I think if it was plan A it would be done by now.

People saying “don’t worry Dubas has a plan” I mean come on, it’s July 10th and we have no goalies, who “plans” that?
You mean we don't have our goalie situation all figured out and shared with the public before free agency even starts!? PANIC!!

Sens have zero leverage. None.

They either pay $7.5 million over the next 2 years in retention or $10 million in buyout. Either way, the Leafs don't care. If the Sens try to drive any sort of a bargain, the Leafs will just let them buy out Murray and then circle back to him even more cheaply.

People twist themselves into knots trying to misrepresent situations....

You are better than this. You know UFA hasn't started.

Lie if it makes you feel good in your plums, but it does nothing for your credibility.

Talbot and Blackwood are not starters on an NHL team.

I don't see Campbell as a starter on a team with cup aspirations.

I'm not even sure Keumper is a starter on a team with cup aspirations unless you're as dominant as Colorado.

Not really sure what the answer is tbh.

The years of undervaluing goaltending because spreadsheets say that there's not a huge difference between NHL goalies has really dug a hole.

They are no where near the cap. They don't have to move him and their buyout gets significantly easier next year. They'll just bury him I'm in the AHL and buy him out after this year

If you think they're going to give up a bunch to then give us a massive discount your kidding yourself.

July 14 we become just as desperate and at that point they've made the decision to not buy him out

Some people will do anything to keep their dubas delusions

By all accounts they don’t seem to want to buy him out. They’re very eager to move him. They’re a cheap team looking to save money so it’s not as black and white as you’re implying.

The Leafs only lose leverage in any goaltending negotiation if Campbell and Keumper sign elsewhere.

Not many teams are in the goalie market right now anyway.

At that cap hit, it could make sense to run a cheap tandem, but all that retention should cost them so much it isn't worth it.

Ottawa looks better off buying him out this offseason or the next, so for them to retain in a trade seams like it'd cost some, plus the third party retention.

Watching them both I'd say Jack has the greater upside tbh. Murray wasn't that great in Pittsburgh but was surprisingly very stable & consistent behind a strong team to win 2 cups; fleury was so inconsistent & unreliable at times that average (but consistent) joe was all they needed.

but watching him since I don't really know what to think about him.

If they can somehow get him closer to 25% of his 6.25m cap hit, great; they can form a cheap tandem and improve the team in front of them, you can win a cup that way. I just think it's so unlikely they could do this without giving up too many assets, unless he's bought out or Doiron & another GM make pretty bad deals to help the Leafs.
Murray is a bigger risk than Jack at this point imo. Hard to believe we might be at the point where Dubas is going to risk his job on Murray refinding his game. I guess we see what he has up his sleeve….

Oh no Ron Jeremy questions my character, lol.

What I said is spot on, relax with the fanboy routine.

My point is they'll both be gone by July 14th so if we're not settled by then our leverage diminishes

Murray was waived last year and they could do it again. The Leafs can’t pick him off waivers.

The plan is to build from the net out, draft high, develop well and bring in your prospects to replace players that walk :sarcasm:

It is becoming clear that some teams figure if you don't have a Vasi, Demko, Shesterkin you go cheap in goal. How bad must Mrazek be if we were willing to drop 15 slots to 38 to dump him and then go after Murray ??

Who knows, perhaps Dubas is playing 3D chess with the rest of the league in order to lower the price of the guy he really wants.

All I know is whatever option he chooses, if it does not work, he better be on or under the next bus to the Soo.

Campbell should understand two things here as well, he can make up whatever salary shortfall in advertising here, and there is no escrow to consider with that cash. Also, this isn’t Edmonton.
