I mean I would be fine with it, I just cannot see this being it with Mrazek going on waivers. Something tells me Dubas has something up his sleeve TBH.

Ultimately I am just happy we didn't get into that arms race with FLA, TB, and BOS. We are going to be an underdog in almost any possible R1 series we could be a part of, no sense completely mortgaging the future.

We have a good team as is. Jack Campbell was an all-star for a reason, he will be fine.

Gio was a sneaky underrated add. We got him and Blackwell for less than what Chiarott went for. It's a win.

The price for players is really too damn high and I am not sure the ROI is out there for a team that is likely going to have to face 1 of 2 top 3 teams in the NHL in round 1.

Leafs could go spend everything and win the deadline and still be bounced by TB or FLA in round 1. It's a tough spot to be in.

Are we better with Gio than we were a few days ago? Absolutely. He's an experienced pro who still has alot to offer in the 3-4 slot. Am I satisfied if that was the last change? No way. The goaltending situation can only be described as tragic. We are hoping that Campbell can regain a form he's only displayed in a few months of his career, or that a rookie can catch fire in the playoffs having zero PO experience. Sateri isn't an upgrade on either imo, and Hutchinson is Hutchinson. Mrazek is a lost cause with his Toskalesque goaltending. We need a goaltender who can steal us games to succeed. Dubas has to find one in the next few hours.

Goaltending and the ‘not good enough’ 2nd line are both concerns that need to be addressed in my opinion or we are leaving too much to chance. To me the 2nd line issues are very frustrating because Willy and JT pre pandemic looked dominant at times. Wtf happened to them - I don’t know. They need to be feasting on less competition with their talents.

3 of the top 4 are likely out after round 2 and the Leafs actually have by far the least to lose right now and it would be damn sweet to be the ones to come out with the Florida teams having gutted their futures.

I'm a yes/no so far, but if this is it, then it is what it is and I'm very happy that they retained all the 1sts, Knies, Robertson, Niemela, Abruzzese and the Dmen that are really close.

ATM I see no reason to bring Mennel up into the NHL and jeopardize that 7th pick by getting him up to 20 games, although the idiot Dingle who is now an insider apparentlyo_O screamed some nonsense about the Leafs trying to move him, because I'm sure with everything going on right now, Dubas is wasting time on this, does that guy just not think things through?

Sandin not on the ice for the Leafs at practice. I hope he is dealt to Arizona for Chychrun. What else would Leafs have to add?

Happy no Fleury (cost was too high), disappointed more futures gone for Giordano.

Sorry I can't find the post to quote in this thread but someone mentioned earlier that real contenders should only need complimentary pieces at the deadline (though some do much more than that anyway), and the Leafs clearly need more than complimentary pieces.

Any concern that the window is closing on this core doesn't make sense to me unless Matthews has already let it be known internally he's planning on testing the UFA waters at the end of his current deal. If not, he could conceivably be a Leaf for ten more years and an excellent player for most if not all of those years. But every time Dubas trades away futures for rentals he's forcing the team into a "win now" situation instead of solidifying via players with term what is a strong group that could compete for years.

Getting Giordano and Lyubushkin (both rentals) furthers that notion, so my concern is that if they miss their chance now, this franchise possibly could be going through a rough stretch 4-5 years from now (even more scary if Matthews doesn't re-sign and instead of moving him before his last season for a king's ransom, Dubas keeps him for one last kick at the can and fails.)

I think the goaltending issues are a little overblown. I'm not against us picking up another goalie, but I think the additions help. The Atlantic will be hard to get out of, but we knew that going in. The Leafs core needs to perform big in the playoffs and I think the top line breaks through this year. Marner might be playing the best hockey ever and Matthews is a beast.

The cost was a conditional second rising to a 1 and that included retention dude. The condition is that they basically win a round.

Sorry bout That's nothing. We just gave up double that for a 38 year old D man and a president choice brand bunting

We improved, Gio good add in short term. I hope he is not already retired.
Blackwell will be hard to play against BUT the competition got much stronger. The first time Marner is given a face wash...we shall see where we stand.

If AM, MM, JT don't produce it's irrelevant who they get. They aren't going to suddenly become the New York Rangers and win 2-1 every night. Toronto is going to win the cup by outscoring their problems, We've known that for about 5 years. They might as well load up on offense to be honest.

Look at Florida, they have the best Goals For per game since 1995-96 and added Claude Giroux. (that was the prime Mario, Jagr, Francis Penguins if you were curious)

All Campbell has to do is be average to give this team a chance. With the way the defence is now they should be able to insulate him enough to give us a chance against the great goalies in the Atlantic. Thing is Campbell was so bad for so long it's hard to have faith he'll bounce back, especially since this is his first full season as a starter.

Scott Wedgewood makes about 825k and cost nothing in trade with his .911 save percentage for Arizona. Why does Kyle continually flub the goaltending position? Options are there for band aids, or straight up solutions. Why no Wedgewood? Fleury? Russian guy from New York who is their hot-shit backup? Why are we signing KHL rejects to fix the most glaring issue this team has had since Kyle took over? There better be an answer in net. Even if Campbell comes back and takes the crease we absolutely must have a better option than Woll, Kallgren, Sateri, Mrazek or Hutchinson to back him up. Without question. I'm absolutely fuming at the thought he does nothing in net.

If this is it, then it's another massive deadline failure for Dubas. They cant end today without a significant goalie upgrade, ideally dumping Dubas' blunder of a Mrazek contract in the process.

I'm holding out hope for Dryden McKay to sign after the NCAA season. Kid is a stud. On one hand I have no idea why a top goalie prospect would want to sign in this goalie graveyard. On the other, he'd have a legitimate path to being a playoff starter, something few if any other team could offer.

We paid for retention for a reason, there are definitely more attempts coming after Mrazek clears at 2pm I’d say.

I’d like to audition Anderson Steeves and Douglass from the marlies to see if they can help. Knies too once he is done.

D looks deep depending on muzzin return and Sandin injury.

frankly overally getting 2 top 4 dmen, a bottom 6 guy and rid of ritchie .... cost 2 2nd rounders, a (2nd or 3rd ariz) and dermott .
ill take it as a win and a very cost effective overall move.

the prices has been insane and unlick anything in the history of the deadline....
would it have been nice to make a big splash ... yeah always wishful thinking but i dont think anyone wants to lose knies or any of our top prospects......

I think he was pretty clearly injured, I'm expecting him to rebound to being a good goalie, just not the best goalie like he was before the slump.

My guess is Dubas was guaranteed at least one more year even if another 1st round loss.

Which, for this trade deadline anyways, is a good thing. A gm fighting for their job often mortgages the future for a hail mary. Dubas kept his 1st, slightly upgraded the D, and is giving Campbell 1 more try. All he can do really without a hail mary (which again, I agree he shouldn't do).
