I dunno about you guys, but can you imagine being the Leaf players right now and going into a war with one of the big three, with our present goaltending situation?

My speculation is that Dubas feels he has to get MAF, but the Chicago GM feels he has to get Matthew Knies in return.

Does Dubas really think some European guy, is going to stride in, and help us win a Stanley Cup?

I sure hope he doesn't.

Our goaltending is a mess. Probably solved quite nicely by bringing in MAF. The Chicago GM is having the time of his life, and I am quite sure Dubas, is not.

I'd like to see us add a winger, just to shake up the second or third line.

I'm not sure the goaltending situation can be addressed until the off-season.

If Giordano is the only upgrade we make on the blueline, I'm fine with it.

I feel like Nylander getting dealt is a real possibility tomorrow. He and JT haven't been working. He's not going up on Line 1.

Where's he going? Tried him on 3rd line, briefly. That didn't work and may have cratered him mentally.

We all know he's ultra-talented, and the kind of playoffs he can have, but he has major warts when he's not engaged and that's far too often.

Kyle's future may be on the line, so feel like he's not going to let it ride on the "Core 4" again. He has too much to lose and I don't think when push comes to shove he will roll with Willy this time. Kind of a reverse of his contract situation. Last second deal to send him on. Curious what talented winger he could get back in return.

He also ain't letting the goalie position ride. Can't wait to see what he does.

Multi-player trade with Flyers, Hawks, Canucks, or Ducks.

Put me In the not satisfied camp. Don't think they have enough and need more talented guys with great compete level.
Totally agree. Willie is a pure sniper who scores sweet goals, but as good as that is, we cannot afford to keep him as another offensive go-to guy - the Leafs have the other Big 3 who are paid to deliver that. Matthews and Marner make up the best line in hockey so untouchable, JT has no-trade contract. That leaves Willie. To me he's like Kessel was, the nice garnish but not the meat and potatoes. Goaltending and a semi-skilled tough s.o.b. defenceman are more important at this time.

I’m trying to understand the Leafs play with goaltending.
Something tells me they aren’t done.
Mrazek once waived will clear up cap space. Assuming he clears along with Sateri that presumably leaves Mrazek, Sateri, Hutchinson and an Injured Woll in the AHL… with Campbell and Kallgren up with the Leafs.

I just can’t see them gambling their playoff hopes on Campbell (turning it around) or a couple inexperienced and unproven european netminders.
My guess is they go out and trade for a backup today with the cap savings on Mrazeks demotion.
I realize this hypothetical leaves way too many goalies (and contracts) in the system so perhaps Hutchinson (as a throw in) is included in said trade.

The often injured Jack Campbell is injured and hasn't posted a sv% above .900 in any month in 2022 yet.

Mrazek was one of the worst signings this offseason and is on waiver with another 2 years at $3.8 mil on his contract beyond this one.

So Leafs have 25 year old Swedish rookie Erik Kallgren and 32 year old Finish goalie Harri Säteri (if he clears waivers) who has only played 9 NHL games total and none since 2017 as their current 1A/1B tandem heading into the playoffs.

This is Leafs goaltending situation as they head into a likely matchup against the 2 X defending Cup champs TB in the 1st round.

Should any Leaf fan be sleeping easily knowing this is the current situation, if the Leafs stand pat in net at the TD?.

Is the Mrazek signing as bad as Marleau's 3rd year ?? Asking for Lou.

Seriously, bury him with the Marlies for the rest of the season and if he finds his game, he'll be available for the playoffs. Figure out what to do about the goaltending this summer but let Shanny do it. Other than 2-3 months from Soup, Dubas has been a disaster when it comes to goaltending.

From Feb. 2020 to Jan. 14th of this season, Campbell had the 2nd best save% in all of hockey.

I don't see much else they can do, to be honest. Goaltending is the only position that could use an upgrade, and there's not much that can be done.

There's going to be a small window after Mrazek and Sateri's waiver process is over and before the deadline at 3:00. In that window we'll know if either guy was claimed and be able to react if one was.

If Mrazek is claimed (incredibly unlikely) then the team will have the cap space for a big-name goalie. If Sateri is claimed, they'll have no money to bring anyone in and be in real trouble. Maybe a panic move for a 3rd stringer?

If neither are claimed, then we're probably sticking with what we have and putting faith in Soup when he gets back for the playoffs.

Yup I called it 2-3 months worth of goaltending but it might be more like 6 months of hockey. Nobody could have predicted him to be even better this year. Unfortunately he has fallen off a cliff and unless he can rediscover his game, he will be another Jim Carey.

Saw Vejmelka's extension in Arizona is done. 3 x 2.725

Cheap...check.

Term... check.

Available... ????

Not sure why Arizona would do it, but Kyle has to be trying. I know I'd feel good about the goaltending situation if we were to land him. Would be night and day difference...and he's cheap, with term.

Depends on the prices and who ends up going. Not interested in rentals, but I wouldn't have complained if we were the ones who traded for Appleton. A guy like McLeod would be fine as well. Cheap RFAs or swing for the fences with a guy like Chychrun. Anything in between is meh and I'd rather stand pat.

We need forward help. I have no confidence in us scoring goals outside of the first line. Third line is awesome, but not exactly a goal scoring threat, Second line has been a disaster for a few months now, and the fourth line doesn't contribute in any way shape or form. At the same time we have not a lot of assets to burn, facing Florida or Tampa in the first round. I will always believe in the Leafs but I'm not seeing us going far, I really don't. Not to mention the goalie issues. Not sure what we can do, or to fix in off season. We might be 5 in the NHL but I don't see it. Hope I'm wrong.

All the buzz on Josh Ho-Sang can come to an end, today, at least for this year, if he isn't signed before the deadline. He'd be ineligible for the playoffs without an NHL deal.

For those who have contemplated him, today is the day, if Kyle believes in him at all for this season for some kind of movement.

I guess this is the remote possibility we could see to close out the deadline for the Leafs, at least at forward.

We could add nothing, and this team could win it all as is. The core has to play up to their potential.

On the flip side, we could add McJesus himself and get swept if everyone plays like shells of themselves.

Core has to show up. I don’t care who we add or who anyone else adds.

I’ve been watching hockey for long enough to know that anyone added today will likely be a non factor, that goes for any team.
That statement right there suggests that you have actually not been watching hockey much at all. This team needs a bonafide starter. Without one, this team will be gone in 4 straight games. Even with a good tender, the team will be out in the first round anyway. Florida is a bonafide powerhouse and Tampa also loaded up. Dubas did not do enough and this will be his last season as a GM for the Leafs which I am fine with.

Did you ever figure out how counting wins and losses works to make up a team's record? Why are you back on our board?

What are you babbling about? And I am a leaf fan. Colorado first, Leafs second.

Unless I'm mistaken you're the guy that completely fabricated a storyline about the Leafs record against playoff teams earlier this year, then proceeded to have a meltdown when people pointed out how hilariously wrong that was (among other things) then had a main board tantrum when you got turfed.

Nope, not me.

Liar.

Supposed Avs and Leafs fan who has the majority of their post history in the Habs board (often talking shit about the Leafs)

So sad.
Thats hilarious coming from the guy that said Bergevin was a great success....
Your history is there too bud.

If they play like they did against Carolina they will do well…..if not bye bye in the first round.

Not with the uncertainty in net. There is a very real chance a healthy Campbell still gets lit up, rolling the dice on that not being the case with no real plan B is a terrible strategy, especially when we’ve parted with three 2nd round picks on rentals to upgrade for the post-season.
