We all have different perspectives. It's what makes a board like this enjoyable, at least for me.

Giving up picks is lamentable. Had the mistake not been made, by acquiring Ritchie in the first place, they were there to be used by the org on prospects or in trade now at the deadline. I have no agenda to be pro or anti Dubas. I think he's a great guy and everything is judged on a case by case basis. Some will justify everything he does for confirmation bias purposes and others will rip him for the same. Everything in life is a referendum to me.

No GM is perfect and makes his fair share of mistakes. You have to call them out as mistakes, though, and not justify them.

Giving up picks for rentals is something that basically every playoff team and/or contender does, with it obviously only truly "paying off" for 1 of them....

Had the mistake not have been made, the Leafs would have likely still been interested in Lyubushkin.

Leafs #1 need was a goaltender, so really hoping that comes tomorrow. (I was expecting it would happen today in the offday)

Somebody tell me something reasonable that is going to win us the cup? I hate trading for rentals, this team should be built for Matthews going into his 30's, not just the next few years. Getting guys like Niemela & Knies is super important imo

Ritchie was not a deadline deal. He was an "I screwed up" deal. I see this as a false equivalence and conflation. No amount of mental gymnastics can justify all that happened in the Ritchie situation as good.

I might be wrong, but I have to ask. Do you feel as you do because you feel it is your job to justify Kyle as a great GM? I don't have such compulsions.

Will hang up and listen. Never intended to get into any debate on the debacle of Nick's situation.

< I is of course already. These suckas make our team much stronger and better, gangsta really. Blackwell is such an intensive gezuy. For real.

We might get another warrior (thug) come tomorrow, but we will have to see. We are so loving life now though  These suckas is winners and leaders like francis nolan neauwendyk roberts reichel tucker corson leetch housley lindros allison back in the best days of our lives. Period.

I still think we're fixing to get bullied again. I don't think we have the right mix of players on the blueline. I like Giordano, but would have liked to add a Middleton or even shot high for a Mayfield, you never know, but doubtful that happens with Muzzin looking like he's coming back.

Wait you think a blueline including Gio Muzz Boosh Holl is still going to get bullied?

It works for me. Needed top 4 D, done. Wouldn’t do anything else of a big scale. Gotta trust the financial clout to supplement outside the mid draft picks. Too old to be pessimistic about it, team is good, roll the dice, let’s go. If it all bombs, there’s no skill involved in tanking a rich team.

I'm not sure there is a goaltending trade out there to be made that I'd be happy with.

On the flip side, we really need goaltending...

The team has many holes I don’t wanna waste futures. I’d give Knies a contract go to re-sign Gio if he’s good and keep the prayer book close by.

One trade id make is a 4th or so for a legit tough bottom six guy

No the team as a whole. Muzzin and Holl have not prevented it in the past. Lyubushkin has been very good, and Gio has some sandpaper, but he isn’t dropping the gloves and isn’t intimidating.

I can’t forget that Calgary game about a month ago. Even the Nashville game this weekend. This team is ill prepared for that hockey.

Mirtle says that he heard the Leafs were trying something big, and were talking with both Vancouver & Winnipeg. Thinks that they had the Gio deal in their back pocket, and were trying to aim for something bigger but ultimately it didn't work - the Dermott to Vancouver deal was what the talks were reduced to in the end.

So that makes me think they were clearly trying to do more than just get a rental or two, which ultimately does make me disappointed if this was it. They wanted more.

The fact the Leafs waived Mrazek, even with how bad he's been, makes it pretty much a lock that they have another goalie lined up imo.

Also wouldn't be surprised to see another forward come in. Maybe even a good one.

I feel like Nylander getting dealt is a real possibility tomorrow. He and JT haven't been working. He's not going up on Line 1.

Where's he going? Tried him on 3rd line, briefly. That didn't work and may have cratered him mentally.

We all know he's ultra-talented, and the kind of playoffs he can have, but he has major warts when he's not engaged and that's far too often.

Kyle's future may be on the line, so feel like he's not going to let it ride on the "Core 4" again. He has too much to lose and I don't think when push comes to shove he will roll with Willy this time. Kind of a reverse of his contract situation. Last second deal to send him on. Curious what talented winger he could get back in return.

He also ain't letting the goalie position ride. Can't wait to see what he does.

Multi-player trade with Flyers, Hawks, Canucks, or Ducks.

Put me In the not satisfied camp. Don't think they have enough and need more talented guys with great compete level.

The price was a lot more for the big boys in Nick Paul (6'3,224 ) and Lindholm (6'4, 216). Those were the guys we needed in addition to a top goalie. The Atlantic division sized up in a big way.

I don't think what Dubas is doing is going to work but let's see. Go get a goalie, then if it doesn't work we can scrap this roster in the offseason once and for all. Although I doubt that will happen either.

Willy's got 8pts in 6gms btw

Still weak in goal so would like us to make a move there for a cheap veteran not signed beyond this year.

Maybe we were looking at Schenn + a forward (Garland / Miller) ? Feels like we have been linked to Schenn for a while now. Cost was probably way too high, seems like Dubas wants to hang onto that 1st and top prospects

Is there room to add a Max Domi. Originally it was JT Miller for the #2 line LW spot, but Domi would fit there as well. Bit of grit w3 some skill on that 2 line. Might cost you a Nic Robertson plus.

Not at all... simply accepting the reality that Dubas "got out of" his mistake in signing Ritchie, for very little actual consequence.

That 3rd round pick would have probably been spent on a guy like Lyubushkin anyways... so what he gave up is the optional upgrade to a 2nd, plus a bit of non-cap dollars with potentially Dzingel and Hutton.

Mirtle speculated about Copp (says he knows the Leafs had interest), and speculated about both Schenn, Garland, Motte, and possibly Halak as well.

So either way, it looked like Dubas was swinging for a bigger hit. Think you are right though - him not wanting to include his 1st, probably nixed any potential deal
