Although I'm a proud European, I like to see Europe united in political and cultural stuff, but in sports.
So no.. Won't be proud, but just for the laughs and the awkwardness it would be fun.

Also Ehrhoff and Seidenberg are playing for new contracts, so they have this final going for them which is nice.
(Insert that guy with the hat in here)

I hope they win so that we can get rid of this tournament. Or at least the make believe teams. Eichel would probably have made a difference for the US too...

But this is very important for the kids of Leftoveria, growing up seeing their proud nation winning a tournament.

He did very little for team NA, what makes you think that he would have made a difference for team US?

I was hoping Europe, Sweden and Finland would all be out early to give the three Predators more rest, but oh well.

The answer to the question is, "no."

As a Canadian I want Canada to win, but a Team Europe win would forever remind us all of the sham that this tournament was.

I'm torn.

I have a hard time finding any real winners in this bs.

Have to admit Team Europe beating Canada in the final series would be just the perfect outcome though. I wouldn't mind that.

Kids of Leftoveria. Sounds like name of a song or a band..

So Slovakians, Swiss, Germans, Danes, Norwegians, Slovenians and all others.. do you feel victory if Europe geta the gold?

Feel like crap since NHL torched their international franchise to ground.

World cup used to be almost like olympics. This one doesn't even rival the IIHF WC. If Europe wins, the franchise is dead.

I guess I'd like to see the European team to win just to make things a little bit messy with this format. "Let's see which nation owns the game of ice hockey" in the pre-tournament advertising etc... But I'm okay with Canadians winning as well.

I will for sure cheer for Team Europe (Kopitar), but there will be no difference for me if they win or lose. It is just strong exhibition tournament...

um no lol it is the world cup with the best players in the world playing. Nobody who is actually involved or playing in the world cup thinks of this as an exhibition tournament lol

Best post in all threads of this section. :handclap:

Well, I don't doubt that team Europe will try to win final.

But I can assure you that if you ask Kopitar what is more important to him (qualifying for Olympics at the start of September or winning a World Cup with team Europe), you will no doubt receive answer from him that qualifying for Olympics with Slovenia is much more important to him...

Of course. This is simply amazing. None of these players and non of us followers would have ever had a chance to be invoved in a final of best on best tournament.
Considering the fact that many players on this team are rather old it's quite likely this is also the last time we'll see such a competitive team Europe.

While I do agree that there are some veteran players in the team, I don't think your other point is valid though. In a big picture I'm pretty sure European hockey (especially outside Sweden/Finland/Czech/Russia in this context) is going up, not down. Even if there will be a few retirements in the next few years, situation as a whole will look so much better in the future for this team if the country composition stays the same.

Gaudreau certainly would have...but they wouldn't have brought him

Flaming dumpster fire that they were, the USA was *theoretically* hurt the most by this format (again, that's only if they chose to bring the young talent instead of 30 year old grinders).

That's where the competitive balance of this tournament was thrown off. On paper Europe shouldn't have gotten through Sweden, and TNA was eliminated by Russia.

This team has made the tournament a little more interesting. Everyone keeps calling it a glorified exhibition yet everyone wants to see the same match up over and over again. My interest went from 1/10 to 4/ in terms of excitement.

I really hope Europe wins for the awkwardness of ending a "World Cup" with no flag-raising and no national anthem.

They really dropped the ball by not giving team Europe an anthem.

You're welcome NHL.

12 Americans
11 Canadians

Yeah. So each two of the nations feels almost 50% represented.

As opposed to Team Europe being 6 slovaks, 6 germans and some guys. Are people from Europe supposed to care MORE than Americans/Canadians care about Team NA despite being represented less?

The one Dutch guy that could've made the teams probably wants to play for Team NA more than Team Europe anyway.

I can never root against Team Canada, but I honestly wouldn't mind it also if Team Europe wins in the hope that the NHL would lay to rest this ridiculous format.
