Not nation, maybe hockey-area.

Even then, this is a pre-season tourney, so I don't give this as a lot of weight. This tourney hasn't really changed my view of any team.

thay are # 1 even if they lose. it is just a bad coach and not the best players picked...obviously

Pathetic tournament. Gimmick. Replacement for Olympics?

Will never reach that status so **** NHL the greedy ********.

Yeah, that's the problem when you include non-national teams in such a format of tournament. What if it ended up,North America v Europe in the final?

That's not what the organisers are planning or hoping for, the idea is that such a team is more competitive and creates more interest, but falls short at playoff time.

The idea is understandable, to help showcase or put on show all of your best players, some of whom might otherwise be in teams that just make up the numbers, but it's truly a double edged sword.

I'm not interested in seeing Canada v Europe for the winners medal, it then becomes just a meaningless exhibition.

I've seen 'Canada B' or 'Team Quebec' suggested; and there would be the playing strength to do it, but what then for international hockey if the final is Canada A v B or Canada v Quebec?

Australia is a nation and I would say it is the largest part of Oceania, the continent...

This is false. The continent is called Australia, which contains a country also called Australia. The idea that "Oceania" is the name of the continent is one of the great myths of our day.

Oceania is just a term used to reference a vaguely defined region of the world, with no formal borders.

Kudos to the OP, but Europe is not the second best hockey nation now. Europe minus Sweden, Finland, the Czech Republic and Russia is the new second best hockey nation. Despite not being a nation at all. And no-one in the involved nations (Slovakia, Switzerland, Germany etc) even cares. Well done, NHL!
