I would like a GM like Florida has, he realized what he had to do to make his team better for t playoffs.
They had a great regular season but somthing was missing.
I don't think it is in Dubas's DNA to realize that he was wrong.
For 3 yrs he tried with 4 offensive lines it wasn't working , I think most of us knew that playoff hockey is a different breed.
He has drafted some really good players but they all seem to be the same
Excluding Knies , small and skilled with not alot of fight in there game .
Our top 6 is all skilled perimeter players, that has to change .
And they don't know or refuse to change for the playoffs we play very sloppy game.

Who is out there to make these tough changes

It would have been an easier situation to do this last yr.

Now
Mathews and Nylander needs a new contract
Marner has two yrs left on his deal
jT is getting slower during the season he seemed to be faster not in the playoffs.

They all have clauses kicking in July 1st

What’s it going to cost to get Morgan Rielly to play with Letang?

Seeing how he's a FA, I find it weird people keep saying "fired".

Anyway, I've been saying since the deadline I thought there's an extension in place. Unsure why the organization would let him trade a bunch of assets if they didn't believe he was still the best person for the job. I also believe he's the best person for the job, but he needs to figure out what's plaguing him specifically, and unlike most of the NHL dinosaurs, he's insightful and seems to actually learn from his mistakes.

On the other hand, I could see him leaving to get away from the fan base & media. I could see Matthews, Marner, and Nylander doing the same, and honestly I couldn't blame them. If it happens I would hate an old-ass-retread. Give me one of the Canes AGM's, or promote from within. 0 desire for someone with fired GM.experience, or even a "proven" winner. Give me someone who thinks outside the box, with a strong analytics background, and isn't as obsessed as Dubas is/was with finding leaders and grinders to fill out the lineup. Get players in the bottom six that contribute, not guys that keep the game stagnant.

The Draft is just before the end of Dubas'contract. The only reason they would fire Dubas is if they want someone in place before the draft. Though, I suppose they can just "remove him of his duties", so he doesn't take any information with him.

Yeah in that case just look to what the Leafs did with Lou, who left before his contract technically ended because Dubas was promoted to his role.

Yeah, he must have had team permission or an out in his contract, but sure- that is possible with Dubas if they decide to get someone else.

Just do what they did with Lou before his deal expired and Dubas was hired.

Fully agree. Think things really went off the rails once he started bringing in guys like Thornton, Simmonds, and Foligno. Simmonds wasn't a terrible idea for the one year to see if he still had something in the tank, but being brought back for 2 more years once he clearly looked done just seemed odd to me.

Going after the NAK, Lafferty, Acciari types is more up the alley of what we should be looking at if we want grit. Maybe ZAR too if he had a little bit more offensive upside than he has shown in his NHL career.

Otherwise, give me Trevor Moore types any day... And we should hopefully be getting some of those from Steeves, Abruzzese, Ellis, Hirvonen, Tverberg, etc. if their two-way game and skating take another step next year.

I don't get the obsession with bringing in old slow dudes - our team used to be fast and tough to defend now we are just slow every playoffs.

I like ROR but the problem is that ROR and JT down the middle is having two of the slowest centers in the league in your top 9.

I don't think he will be fired. Likely gets a couple more years here before either moving on or getting fired for real.
