* It would handicap Canada who are almost too dominant to make it interesting.

* Quebec is a real place with a real identity that is different from the rest of Canada and would have a natural base of supporters.

* Unlike U-23 it wouldn't weaken team USA, a country that will need all their best players in order to compete.

* If the format is changed so that all teams get at least one home game in the tournament, then there's one more team playing at home in North America.

* England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales having their own teams in soccer sets a precedent that it can work just fine to have your own team even if you don't have political independence.

* Quebec was close the voting for independence and might very well actually become independent one day, so the NHL would be ahead of the curve.

* Gary Bettman would maybe become slightly less hated in Quebec City.

If Quebec ever separates, sure we can revisit this.

Ahahah... First a team representing a whole continent (team Europe)... Then another team technically representing another continent, but in reality just two nations & with an age limit (team North America)... Now folks even want a regional team? So much for a World Cup! What's next, team United Fishermen of the North Atlantic? Why not, after all.

Go back 10, 20, 30 years or so and sure. Team Quebec might do very, very well. They might even win. Go back 40 or 50 years and they'd likely be the favorites.

but today? Sorry - i don't think they can ice a very competitive team anymore.

The only reason for this is that their own separate soccer associations and national teams predate the founding of the world federation FIFA. It's a unique exception in soccer.

Team "Francophiles of Canada for the Promotion of the French Language" vs Team "West Coast Craft Beer Lovers (aka The HopStars)".

The difference is that those are different countries, Quebec is part of Canada and not a different country.

Yep, also other regional teams from Canada and maybe US. The WC is for Canadian viewers who don't care about teams/players other than their own (case in point, the empty arena yesterday in Swe-Fin match), so NHL should cater for them.

Neat idea. I'd love to see that, and it would be HUGE in Quebec. They'd probably be on the level of the Czechs or thereabouts, and that's just fine.

Quebec is finally starting to develop some more elite talent, with a bunch more on the way in the next couple drafts too.

Huberdeau - Bergeron -
Duclair - Brassard - Drouin
Mantha - Perreault - Dubois

Vlasic - Letang
Beauchemin - Demers
Scandella - Savard
Matheson

Crawford
Luongo
Bernier

D looks better than several teams at this tourney. A little thin on wing - lots of older role players these days but they've got Comtois, Veleno, Parent, Simoneau trending very well for the next couple drafts. And there's a ton of drafted prospects with pro potential - Gauthier X 2, Roy X 2, Hudon, Dauphin, Poirier, Aube-Kubel...

Coach : Therrien (jk)

I always thought a "State Provincial" tournament would be kind of fun, based on where the guy grew up playing hockey.

If you had a combination of 12 states and provinces, who'd it be?

Ontario
Alberta
British Columbia
Quebec
Nova Scotia
Manitoba?
Saskatchewan?

Minnesota
New York
Massachusetts
Wisconsin?
another state?

I'd like to, and they could field a somewhat competitive team, but...
Let's try getting all actual countries in the thing.

Michigan is better than any of those states except Minnesota.

Only Minnesota or Michigan could ice a decent hockey team.

The constituent members of the United Kingdom (or at least Scotland and England who were the first) having independent football associations predates organised football and international competition by about four decades. I don't think that would help legitimise this sham competition, although given some of the hilarious 'teams' that have been drawn up to try and make it seem competitive it wouldn't surprise me.

I can't even begin to say what a bad idea this is, and on many levels.

Team Quebec
Team Ontario
Team Western Canada
Team Minnesota
Team USA

That would be great.

You'd need to find a place for Atlantic Canada somehow. Unless you've got something against mackinnon and Crosby.

It would be interesting to see how Minnesota would line up vs the rest of the US. I still think they'd be just a little too weak right now.

"American Hockey

It's a National Sport - Really"

hey look it's the tri-annual hf Quebec should have an international team thread.

People said this Russian team has weak defence well a Quebec team would be far worse. Personally I would love this to happen so people can stop the team Quebec bs once Quebec gets beaten 21-1 by Canada.

This ain't the 50s, Quebec is no longer good at ice hockey. A few prospects doesn't mean your province will be a hockey power again.

A Canada Cup would be huge. But no way the NHL will allow that lol

Team Quebec? ok can't people see this is a PQ plot again.
Team Quebec would wear the Quebec flag, the national anthem would be WHAT? adding fuel to the PQ party. This would turn into a complete political ploy. If you get a Quebec team then flags and PQ ideals would win BIG, If Quebec is refused a team, " once again Quebec is humiliated by ENGLISH CANADA proving that Canada is a foreign country holding Quebec people in a near concentration camp third world province of Canada. PQ win even BIGGER for the struggle for separation.
Whole thing a BAD IDEA...
