So lets say a team ices the puck and after the puck has left their stick or after whistle is blown the get a penalty, they're not allowed to change players right?

Has this ever happened?

Thanks

Happened in the past week or so in Preds game at the end of the game. Preds were defending a 6 on 5 at the end of the game and iced the puck and the other team took a penalty. I can't remember if they were allowed to switch or not, but they did have the face off like they would in an offsides situation just outside the Preds zone rather than in the other team's defensive zone.

Edit:

Going back and looking at the game log, it was against the Rangers last Saturday. It looks like they did not get a change in players.

What's up with all those icing scenario threads?

I don't think i've seen it happen. It would be extremely stupid on that player's part.

If they take a penalty, and they ice the puck.. they're the team with possession so it should be whistled dead before the puck is actually considered to be iced.

I've seen it happen quite often the other way around. Icing the puck when you are about to go on the PP (delayed penalty). The face-off then is in the neutral zone on the side of the offensive team.

Technically, it shouldn't be possible to ice the puck and take a penalty, unless the penalty happens after the whistle

I did say after the puck has left the stick or after the whistle was blown.

After the puck has left the stick, last possession was with the team being penalized so they would still blow the whistle immediately...

After the whistle is a different issue though. I'm sure the penalty would supersede the icing and the penalized team would be able to put out their normal pk. Never seen it though to know for sure.
