I think the ghosts of Habs past decided to retire to and possess Florida for a year.

Bruins - hated rivals, one of the best regular seasons in a while, and a threat to win yet another Cup. Not only did they lose....they lost in a VERY similar manner to the 1979 semifinals, with Montour channeling Lafleur. So, Gen z Bruins fans experience the exact same feeling their grandpas felt in '79.

Toronto - Just remind everyone they're just a high octane version of the Nashville Predators in the Trotz era. Good for playoffs, but not deep runs.

Carolina - Bastards won in the because some Justin Williams fella decide to wreak Koivu's eye. Swept.

And even Sam Pollock decided to be a joker and say "you gotta guess lottery teams better than that to mimic my capture of Lafleur. ;)"

Florida have a stacked team. They picked 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall (Ekblad, Barkov, Huberdeau who became Tkachuk) when they were tanking. Amazung what tanking for multiple years does.

Then they traded a lot of good futures for solid vets (Reinhart, Bennett), and had some good UFA signings (Verhaeghe, Bobrovsky, Duclair).

They didn't tank, They just sucked during that time period.

Bahaha, same difference.

They missed the playoffs 10 times over a 12 year period. That's what enabled them to get the top players on their team (Barkov, Tkachuk via Huberdeau, and Ekblad).

You don't finish low in the standings, you don't get those players. Take those players off the team and they're not in the finals/last year's president's trophy winners.

I think there is a difference between tanking and sucking. But you are right, without those high draft picks, we don't end up with those players.

Pretty sure this is entirely my fault for responding “let’s f***ing GOOOOOOO” when Ekblad got hurt earlier this year

...Sunrise shouldn't even have a freakin' team, it should be in Quebec City...this is Buttman's dream scenario if Vegas also makes the Finals...
