Her prankster days are going the way of the dinosaur.
Darby Risner, 15, slipped her noggin into a giant Barney the Dinosaur head to try to scare her friends staying over for a sleepover Sunday, but instead became the butt of the joke when her melon got stuck inside the plush purple get-up.
“I want[ed] to scare my friends, so I put it on and waited for them to come downstairs,†she said. “It didn’t scare them.â€
She managed to get a laugh out of her pals, but when she tried to take off the costume, she realized she was stuck.
“The head’s big and slipped down over my shoulders and my arms were pinned,†she said. “That made me nervous.â€;
But then she began panicking, thinking she’d be a walking dinosaur forever.
“The worst moment was when I had to throw up,†Risner recalled saying that her friends helped her stay calm.
Her parents drove her to the Trussville Fire Department, where firefighters were able to free her after an hour.
“She’s so little that when they lifted the head, it lifted her off the ground so they had to hold down her feet,†Lt. Vince Bruno told AL.com. “And with Vaseline on her arms, they said it was like trying to wrestle a greased pig.â€
The firefighters were eventually able to cut it off of her.
“I was so happy,†Darby told NBC News.
Risner said the harrowing incident has made her lose some love for Barney, who she used to adore watching on “PBS.â€
“I was really worried for a while there that they wouldn’t be able to get it off of me,†she told NBC. “All of this was really nerve-wracking.â€
