Hypothetical mega star: how would the league deal with this?

If I was a coach, I'd hire an ex con to sneak into the game disguised as a 4th liner and have him deliver a career ending injury to the guy. I'd make sure there were 4-5 guys buffered in between so it could never be pinned back to me. league wouldn't do anything, they would promote the guy since he would be the biggest freak of nature the sports world has ever seen. then after about 10ish years the nhl would go back to obscurity.

A better description of the mega star would be take Connor McDavid's speed, vision, skillset, basically everything, and add Ovechkin's one-timer, Barkov's defensive ability and hits like Scott Stevens.

Then put him on Buffalo and maybe they make the playoffs.

It’s not really that heavy depending on someone’s build. A 7 foot prime Ovechkin would probably weight 280 and still be fast. Lindros was like 230-240 at 6-4 and could skate as well.

What would happen if the NHL witnessed the coming of a mega star, I’m talking about the guy who racks up 8-10 points a night, 7 feet tall 280 behemoth that can’t be hurt by the opposition so you can’t stop him. The type of monster you created in EA NHL when you first started playing. After 5 Stanley Cup in a row won exclusively because of him, would the league intervene to nerf this guy?

Your opinion is crucial on this.

Get back to me when this happens as this is stuff I don't worry about at all as I'm too busy thinking about a mid 50s guy who becomes the oldest rookie ever to lead my Canucks to the SC.......

Because it is the NHL, to help with parity there would be a different standard for infractions against that player and that would limit his effectiveness.

One thing is absolutely certain — this guy would be targeted and injured more often than healthy. He’d have a 500 game career and people would argue whether there needed to be a crackdown on kicking superstars in the face after the whistle.

Great question. Initially I thought the league wouldn't do anything and soak up the astronimcal increase in coverage of the league, but then I realized it's the NHL and of course a ton of owners/teams would complain about it (and Bettman exists to please the owners).

So yes, I think they would nerf this guy somehow. I'm not really sure how but I'll speculate that the forward pass rule gets brought back.
