If they decided to make similiar team to World Cup as is North America 23 and under squad anyone interested trying out what similiar team from Europe would be like using same rules as NA youngstars for world cup 2016 and could it compete against its North American counterpart. Those players must be 23 or under as of Oct. 1, 2016 (i.e., must have a date of birth on or after Oct. 2, 1992)

My attempt (age at tournament)

Gabrield Landeskog(23) - Aleksander Barkov(21) - Filip Forsberg(22)
Elias Lindholm(21) - Mika Zibanejad(23) - Nail Yakupov(22)
Teuvo Teräväinen(22) - Leon Draisaitl(20) - Tomas Hertl(22)
Andre Burakovsky(21) - Zemgus Girgensons(22) - Mikko Rantanen(19)
Valeri Nichushkin(21)

Hampus Lindholm(22) - Rasmus Ristolainen(21)
Olli Määttä(22) - Jonas Brodin(23)
Nikita Zadorov(21) - Adam Larsson(23)
Oscar Klefbom(23)

Andrei Vasilevskiy(22)
Juuse Saros(21)
Ilya Samsonov(19)

interesting, and not a bad roster :)

I think that the NA team is much better though

Swap Rantanen with Pastrnak, otherwise good. (Zacha could also be considered)

NA is better, but not by that much. The main difference is Mcdavid.

Was the last player I cut. Felt Mikko would fit 4th line better. Some other considered ofcourse Ehlers,Fiala,Nylander,Jaskin,V.Rask,Kucherov,Husso,Grigorenko,Dansk,Wennberg,Mueller,Dano,Zacha,Meier and some more that missed.

That roster does look pretty good, maybe something for them to think about for the next World Cup.

Looks about right. Good team, but more potential than current ability. After the top6 on offense it's a drop off in experience.

Klefbom wouldn't be the 7th D. He'd be paired with Brodin as they have played together many times before.

My team would look a little different (but not much), mostly just a few players and line combos.

Landeskog - Barkov - Kucherov
Forsberg - Zibanejad - Yakupov
Lindholm - Girgensons - Pastrnak
Hertl - Teravainen - Nichushkin
Ehlers

Lindholm - Brodin
Maatta - Larsson
Klefbom - Ristolainen
Zadorov

Vasilevski
Ullmark
Saros

It would be kind of neat to see NA U23 and EUR U23 play a single game pre-tournament to see which team makes the actual tournament.

I would definitely take Vasilevskiy over any of the North American U23 goalies right now.

Actually a pretty talented team here .

Landeskog - Barkov - Kucherov
F.Forsberg - Zibanejad - Niederreiter
Teravainen - Draisaitl - Yakupov
Hertl - V.Rask - Nichushkin
Grigorenko

Girgensons, E.Lindholm, Rakell, Janmark, Namestnikov, Rieder, Ehlers, Baertschi

Maatta - Brodin
Lindholm - Ristolainen
Nesterov - A.Larsson
Klefbom/Zadorov

Vasilevskiy, Ullmark, Saros

It's not an U23 team, it's an U24 team. The NHL made a mess of this by initially talking about U23, when that was never what they were planning.

If you call Team NA in the World Cup "U23", then you should also call the WJC an U19 tournament. Which would be just as moronic.

Yep, but he'd have to play against Landeskog-Barkov line with Brodin-Ristolainen which wouldn't be fun.

Teravainen - Draisaitl - Yakupov

RR would the #1RD on that team and I think he and Brodin would look great together.

Landeskog - Barkov - Kucherov
Teravainen - Draisaitl - Yakupov
Forsberg - Zibanejad - Ehlers
Lindholm - Rask - Nichushkin
Hertl - Girgensons

Next Up: Pastarnak, Raantanen, Niederreiter...Could also see Rackell going in a specific bottom-six role over Hertl/Ehlers.

Maatta - Ristolainen
Lindholm - Brodin
Klefbom - Larsson
Zadorov

Vasilevski
Ullmark
Saaros (Presumably, but I've barely seen him, could be Samsonov, ect)

I am sad that there's no Slovaks on the roster. Unfortunately, this is probably well deserved, we are no longer able to consistently develop top end talent like before.

But anyway maybe one of Dano, Reway or Cernak as a token Slovak, for old times sake.

Went with a little different set up for mine given that the top line will be the top shutdown line as well:

Landeskog - Barkov - Forsberg ........................ <---> Top shutdown line (Tough minute scoring line)
Rieder* - Draisaitl - Kucherov .......................... <---> Sheltered scoring line
Rantanen - Zibanejad - Yakubov ...................... <---> Not-as-sheltered scoring line
Girgensens - Rask - Rakell/Rieder .................... <---> The other shutdown line

* or Pastrnak/Nuke/Hertl/Dano

Brodin - Ristolainen
Lindholm - Maatta
Klefblom - Larsson
Zadorov

Dano will be at that level soon enough :yo:

Pain in the ass going through players when it is day and not the year they seem to look at. Wouldnt it be easier with 92 and later born, like it is in all other UXX tournaments?

I do notice they miss players like Klingberg and Kuznetsov with a few months then, they are born 92 but a few months to early. The team would getting a little more star power with them on the team.

I do attempt anyway.

Landeskog - Draisaitl - Kucherov
Nylander - Rask - Forsberg
Nail Yakupov - Barkov - Teräväinen
Rakell - Zibanejad - Pastrnak
Reider/Hertl

Ristolainen - Lindholm
Määttä - Brodin
Larsson - Klefbom
Zadorov

Mrazek
Ullmark
Vasilevsky

But as mention, the 2 best 92 and younger are a few months to old.

Slovakia has a few younger but are not there yet.
