Rielly will age better than Hyman and I’m not sure Rielly will age that well since so much of his game is based on skating and strength.

Just because I think his game and contract will age much better than Hyman’s.
I love Hyman but his play style and injury history make me think there will be some brutal years on the end of that deal.

As much as I love Hyman, I have to go with Rielly here.
The way Hyman plays, that contract could look like an albatross in 3 years. Not to mention the fact that in our current cap crunch, if we had Hyman instead of Rielly, that would mean that we would have no choice but to play Holl every single game. That thought alone will make me vote Rielly.

Rielly because signing Hyman would make the team even more top-heavy. I love Hyman's game but I would never choose him over Rielly.
Plus, Rielly plays the more important position and is a good playoff performer.

Rielly rather easily. Hyman is good in his own right, but Rielly is a legit top pairing defender. Hyman will be worth that amount for maybe 4ish years of the deal, after that it's going to be a bit of an anchor. His play style doesn't last that long in the NHL. It's like an NFL running back vs quarter back, his body just takes much more abuse and it's very very likely his play drops off in a few years.

Great point. I will add that when people say Dubas doesn't have any Matt Martin or Komorov bad contracts..and he did well as a GM. I would argue that its way easier to get out from under a Martin or Leo contract than it is to suffer along with over paying some of your stars. You can't slice off some of Marners deal...you have to get rid of all of it or live with it. This poses a problem that trading away a Leo or Martin along with a draft pick doesn't present.
