MY FUN FACTS.

1. I KINDA GET FINNISH MOTIVES THERE.

STILL GERMS WERE WORSE THAN SOVIETS BY A SOLID MARGIN.

2. BULGARIA ALONGSIDE GERMANY ARE THE ONLY TWO COUNTRIES THAT WERE TECHNICALLY ON THE LOSING SIDE - CENTRAL POWERS/AXIS.

IT MUST BE NOTED THAT TWO HALVES OF AUSTRIA-HUNGARY WERE EITHER ANNEXED OR PART OF AXIS. STILL KINDA COMPLICATED BECAUSE A-H WAS A WEE BIT MORE COMPLEX.

ALSO BULGARIA TURNED COAT IN 1945.
FOR A TIME THEY THOUGHT BOTH ALLIES AND AXIS.

3. CROATS ARE FU^KING UNDERHATED. JASENOVAC WAS A REAL THING SADLY.

….

On an unrelated note - Ukraine is one point away from being promoted to the Elite group at Worlds. They just need to tie Japan that has nothing to play for - safe from relegation, cannot be promoted.

I've actually spent some time in Bulgaria...training Ukrainians for what they are going through now. The place is a weird mix of Soviet/Muslim aesthetics. Burgas is really nice though, I'd totally live there. The Black Sea is great, and an amazing amount of kiteboarders there.

But Finland was totally in the Axis. Just because they signed an armistice separately in 1944 doesn't absolve them. They need to own it. I mean they even put Swastikas on their bf-109s, which I imagine they totally didn't have to do:

I think thanked you for that before. Sure as hell UA is covering our asses in Central Europe even if they never asked for it

Well orthodoxy, old turkic nomadic influence, Ottomans, Eastern Rome and communism would be the major influences.

They had swastikas before Nazis did.

1918 to be exact.

As far as this sentiment goes, there are far more egregious offenders

Croats, Hungarians, Romanians… hell Slovaks even (I don’t want to give them shit because Gabčík was badass among badasses and because of National uprising)

Fins didn’t fight anyome except Soviets.
And Continuation War followed an invasion of their country.

If we keep bringing that up we might as well remind folks that Poles were backstabbed by Soviet Union helping directly or indirectly Third Reich TWICE.

Its kinda hilarious that we decided to come into the Bosnian civil war on the side of the Nazi sympathizing Croats and Muslims against the Serbs, who were vicious opponents of the 3rd Reich.

.... and that now we support the Azov brigade.

History is fun!

And usually lot more complex.

Tito himself was Croat (while asserting he’s Yugoslavian when asked)

Largely because Azov is generally busy fighting the much larger group of Nazis wearing Russian uniforms…And Juche-crazed Koreans.

Far less weirder than supporting Taliban just to fight not that long after.

How exactly should we own it 80 years later? I mean they teach this shit in schools. As MV said, things might look worse than they actually were. It doesn't mean it's all sunshine and butterflies of course.

If you are so interested in history, you should read more about the symbol and it's use in Finnish Air Forces.

Same way as US folks are owning segregation laws. By having third of population bringing it up all the time because it was bad and another third trying to bring it back.

(Hyperbole)

own it only in the sense to not to say the US is like a fascist country or whatever (not saying you personally said that). I just think its poor form for citizens of a former Axis power to throw stuff like that around, you know.

Poor form in internet discussions? No way lol. Fascism is thrown too easily in discussion these days anyways.

I'm not familiar enough with US to call you guys anything. But I know our history back to medieval times.

I get what you are saying, but I disagree in some level. For example Germany is as far as it gets from a fascist country today. But they can say with a first hand experience what is fascism. Still, I'm not saying they should be labeling countries.

Can you imagine the US having the nerve to criticize anyone else for human trafficking.

I'm glad you brought up Germany. Like when I was at Oktoberfest and had to listen to bullshit opinions about our invasion of Iraq I literally laughed in their faces.

People have bullshit opinions about everything. I don't think you can generalize one occurrence at Oktoberfest.

I'm wrong all the time with my opinions and I don't have a problem to admit I'm wrong. That is the whole point of discussion. Gather information from others and adjust your picture of reality accordingly. It's never black and white, even when we want it to be.

We are all assholes, if you look close enough.

No, I'm not generalizing about that. I'm just saying- those folks at Oktoberfest had no rhetorical leg to stand on given their country's history of bellicosity.

People don't care if they have a leg to stand or not.

Anyway, I've learned at a lot where you're coming from with your views and I respect a decent discussion. We don't have to agree on everything. Otherwise it would be boring.

Unfortunately, I've found that this quote of Tolstoy rings all too true these days.

"I know that most men, including those at ease with problems of the greatest complexity, can seldom accept even the simplest and most obvious truth if it be such as would oblige them to admit the falsity of conclusions which they have delighted in explaining to colleagues, which they have proudly taught to others, and which they have woven, thread by thread, into the fabric of their lives." --Tolstoy
