Effort: The Leafs tried their hardest the last playoffs. In fact in every first round exit for the last decade, they tried their hardest. So it's not for a lack of effort.
Turnovers: Costly turnovers have led to game changing and series ending plays. So they can correct that. These last few games should be fine tuning the low risk play. Identifying (see Booshes screen) and correcting coachable moments. You see it on the bench, players are talking about breakouts, PP and PK alignments, It's happening.
Goalies: The dreaded softy, the back breaker. Can Campbell make the game/series changing save? You can fix that. Campbell can get focussed and even if he is still prone to softies, you could minimize the chances with team defensive play. Lower the risky neutral zone turnovers, don't get hemmed in your end, play in the offensive zone, learn how to play with a lead.
Injuries to key players: We have had bad luck. Can't do much about injuries except to be the aggressor instead of the victims. Don't get fatigued so you are exposed to injuries. Rest players down the stretch and be ready for the first game.
Score goals when you are stifled: Its easy to score goals in game 55. 10x harder in the playoffs. Employ secondary scoring and have you PP running optimally heading into the playoffs. Break through tight checking and go to the hard areas. I think they do that much better. Matthews scores every way, including tips and garbage goals. Marner's shooting more, Nylander did it last year and is starting to show that again. Bunting is going to be important around the net causing mayhem.
Defense: Our defense is deeper and better than years past. we will be Abe to ride through injuries better and play a safer more intelligent game.
just don't break my heart again you jackasses.
