Looking at other teams is just a lame excuse for Dubas’ failings. Why Leaf fans justify sub par goaltending because some other teams goaltending isn’t very good is bizarre and fairly idiotic.

That is ridiculous. What it shows is there is clearly not enough legit goaltending in the top tier.

Everyone who throws out Dubas' name,, refuses to throw out a name of a goalie who was A) available and affordable or B) wanted to come to Toronto.

It's not like he had a deal on the table for Vasi and walked away from it thing the goaltending was good enough

We aren’t privy to that information and it’s his job to find the players needed not the fans.
We can assume he didn’t have a deal for Vasi because a goalie like that won’t be moved.

When is the GM allowed to be accountable for the team that is out on the ice?
He will certainly receive all the praise in the world if they win until then he receives criticism for his failings.
This has every indication of looking like a failing for a team that is excellent in every other area(jury is still out on the coach, IMO)

Everyone can be a fan in their own way. Some will always find excuses and go with the ‘we’ll get them next year’ or ‘it’s not his fault’ mentality, not everyone has to be that type of fan.

The Muzzin-Campbell situation is cause for concern. If not for that (which could work out) we'd be set for a long run. Thank god we got Gio.

I thought last year we were finally getting the monkey off our back but we just found a way as usual
so I really don't know what to expect here
It's hard not to expect disappointment now though
I sure hope they turn this sour attitude around on me and turn me back into a believer
until then Im going to enjoy this regular season

The core told management that they will get it done when it counts. Their play lately is backing up that talk. As such, I think they show up. What we do not know is which Tampa team shows up. The one currently rumoured to be playing on fumes or one that might be waiting for the playoffs to turn it up.

So we can only praise him if they win but if they lose in the first or second round again, we can't criticize him? It's fully on him now. He trusts the goalies and his core, if they don't deliver that's on him. Last year I could give him a pass, but not this year.

Look at how you phrase your point. Find excuses?

It's not an excuse to understand that itvtajes two teams to make a trade. If you were a GM, wouldn't your asking price be high with the Leafs if you thought tgey were desperate.

Did you want Dubas to pay a 1rst plus for MAF?

Of course people can criticize him. I just don't think this is an issue for that.

I am positive he looked around for goalie help, but in the end there was nothing available that made sense for the Leafs

If that was the cost and it helped take the team all the way, absolutely. His decision was that it wasn’t the right move. If the team bows out early again he has to do own his decisions.

Like many have said here, goaltending is the biggest worry.

Behind that it comes down to Matthews and Marner. They're good enough to win a series, and it looks like they've both matured this year.

It was encouraging reading that TSN article where Marner talks about how the guys have shied away from contact, and they know they need to prepare for playoffs, AND he's leading by example.

If goaltending is above average and M&M play like they can, Tampa is the only team that worries me in round one.

Yep, steady Freddy.........

Jarry is sub .900 and injured currently (uh oh)

Shesterkhin has one playoff game with a .900 (unproven is what people tell me Campbell is)

Why do all these other goalies get the benefit of the doubt and not Campbell?

Tampa has the only proven goalie

There wasn't an upgrade on Campbell available, pretty simple. People say Fluery but the price was too high, and is he an upgrade?

It is quite simple, not sure why the anti-Dubas crowd doesn't understand this.

I've seen people say "he should have found something", so if Hellebyuck was available and the ask is Matthews, well he found something, should he do it?

It all comes down to if this team shows up and lives up to its potential, so far this season we have seen what they are capable of and when running at 100% they could go all the way.

The real elephant in the room is Campbell, can he find his game again? We live or die by his hands, i think he will find his game and this will be the first time in a long time we are playing in June.

I think the boys grew up a little this year, no longer kids, they are here to put the league on notice that it's theirs now.
Got goosebumps reading that

You are right except for comparing a goalie with a 10 year career (Soup) with a goalie who is breaking out (Shesterkin). Nobody would be questoning our goaltending if Shesterkin was a Leaf.

You have no idea who is or was available.
No one hates Dubas we just don’t blindly agree with everything he does.

Strive to post better, challenge yourself to think about what is/happened.

I think plenty would question it if he were a Leaf, but people won't because he is not a Leaf.

I am fine saying he is a great goalie and will most likely perform well, but the same has been said about someone like Bobrovsky for a while.

I just think it is funny which players get the benefit of the doubt in the playoffs and which don't.

Campbell has played one series with a .934 and people are acting like he is a sieve or will be injured, just because?

People blindly hate Dubas, not saying it is you, but it exists.

Nor do you, but you think it is Dubas' fault for not addressing the goalie issue when no one was potentially available or all the prices were too high.

Strive to post logically, challenge your room-temperature IQ

Campbell is currently 76th in the NHL in GAR.

Also if you watch Campbell play he’s nowhere near as physically gifted or technically precise as any of these goalies. He’s a battler who had a stretch of his career where he overperformed. This season he’s been below league average every month except November.

Leafs fans severely underrate Freddy. His playoffs vs WSH, Boston and CLB were far more impressive than Campbell choking away a series with 3 tries to close it out against Montreal who could barely manage a high danger scoring chance.
