WJC is a very special event in this country; someone calls it our alternative to the American college bowls. The time is perfect for such an event; it falls on major Canadian holidays and became a tradition for scores of Canadians, glued to the TV screens every night. Even the NHL games become the second priority for all of us. And that’s where TSN takes the centre stage for live sport presentation, shadowing CBC, Hockey Night in Canada itself by a good margin. To show WJC is a big task, and a big privilege and TSN fails to deliver goodies to us, year after year. This event had actually outgrown this marginal sport channel. It is bigger then life and could be compared to winter Olympics. This event shapes our future as a hockey nation and makes us proud of our kids. And because it is so huge, the rights to present it to Canadian people caries enormous responsibility and challenge. Let’s see where TSN fails miserably to deliver on a promise.

TSN presents very limited coverage. People are screaming for more. Numbers are great. What is the problem? Where is THE FREAKING COVAREGE OF WJC?? TSN became the poor version of NBC. The American Olympics Network. But even NBC pays attention to the great international stars; they build anticipation gradually for events as gymnastics showing personal profiles not only on Americans but other international stars. TSN.………Where is your coverage of Malkin the magnificent. The player, you admire his skills. The guy, who makes the tournament worth watching. What we have is PM lame comments on Lemtyugov, who is going to be a bright future star in NHL.
Where is your coverage of the Russian team., Swedes and the others. Just learn how to do the decent job, from CBC. Become a legitimate network and not the Canadian drum beaters. Besides, I will never tire to tell Canadian people. With almost one million Russians in this country, we starve for Russian style of hockey. We will never convert to like Canadian style of play. It will just never happen. That’s why as taxpayers of this country, we deserve the coverage of team as team Russia . Actually, I can not wait, when TSN will finally lose the rights for this event. What they do is embarrassing. Just tell PM, that there are thousands and thousands of Russian-Canadians, who are in shock when he mocks the Russian players as Lemtyugov. Only for this HE HAS TO BE FIRED.

I don't remember any other network ever showing more of the WJC than TSN does. And at least it's not just Canada, since we get the other medal round games and a few other "games of interest" in the roundrobin (which this year were USA games).

The reasons for not showing roundrobin games from Pool B (in a different venue) are reasonably well-documented.

Now, naturally, I and many other fans here, would watch pretty much every game of the tournament if TSN could show it. That'd be great. But hey, if TSN showed every Montreal game, or bunches of CHL games, or if Sportsnet could start showing more CHL games than they do, etc, etc, hey that'd be great too. But the bottom line is they have a business to run. At some point, it's fair to expect that they know the finances of their business. Picking up the feed for WWE or Poker or Dog Jumping or whatever might actually win out over setting up and running a parallel broadcast team in Kelowna.

I'm thankful for what we get, and I'm glad TSN has their WJC contract for the next 7 years. Sure, it could be better. But far more likely, it could be far far worse.

Here's hoping they cover the full WU-18 this spring too, since that is such a wonderful Entry Draft lead-in too, and could gain status almost comparable to the WJC if they marketed it. I hope the fact that the NHL isn't on lockout anymore doesn't disrupt that... it was awesome last year.

TSN does extensive coverage of Canada's December training camp on SportsCentre.

They do an hour WJHC preview a few days before it starts where they run down all the teams and all key players. They replay this show a few times.

They show every Team Canada game with a 30 minute pre game show and 30 minutes post game show.

The WJHC highlights lead off every single Sporscentre broadcast.

They show several non-Canadian games, including all medal round games.

I'm not sure what you want.

Besides, I will never tire to tell Canadian people. With almost one million Russians in this country, we starve for Russian style of hockey. We will never convert to like Canadian style of play. It will just never happen. That’s why as taxpayers of this country, we deserve the coverage of team as team Russia .

Thats fine man, but if you want to watch Russian hockey go back to Russia, TSN is a Canadian network thus has a Canadian bias, either deal with it and watch the great hockey action or turn off your television and stop crying. If you truly love the sport you will realize that Tsn does a great job presenting the tournament and other International events because they do cater to Canada, most Canadians, don't want to see Russian hockey or European style hockey, just look at the Swedish elite league coverage on Sporstnet last year, the ratings were poor and that was the only pro hockey on the tube.

Any ways im looking forward to a great final tonight and GO CANADA GO

You've already been told over and over the reason but you refuse to listen. More frequent and longer threads won't change that.

I like the TSN WJC coverage and announcers it's alot better than listening to Glenn Healey...he's so ****ing annoying.

What does paying taxes have to do with TSN? You bought whatever TV package gives you TSN, so just cancel it if you're unsatisfied.

This is simply nonsensical. I'm a Canadian taxpayer-----so give me more coverage of Russian hockey!!!!

yep.....TSN is apparently now government funded. As the other guy said.....if you're unhappy with TSN then call your local cable company and ask to cancel that tier of cable channels. Then you don't need to worry and lose sleep over TSN's coverage. That will not be your problem

Seriously, though, I feel TSN covers the tournament extremely well. I like the tournament a lot but I don't want to see a Russia-Sweden game if it means taking out an NHL game or something else. I only really want to watch Canada's games and the medal round games. I think this reflects the general feeling and that is why TSN only shows these games.

I'm pretty sure the "ratings" would drop otherwise.

edit.....I'm not even going to mention you're claim that the WJC is equivalent/surpassed the Winter Olympics, as that was either a sarcastic comment or you're completely out of it. And if you think that the CBC would somehow provide better coverage then go out and ask a few curling fans whether they favor TSN or CBC and get back to us on that.

My advice to you is to either enjoy the games that we can see and be happy they are on (other countries get close to no coverage) or just don't watch if you're really that unhappy.

You also stated that TSN should learn to be unbiased and do a good job from the CBC. -------You've obviously never watched the CBC then. They jam Toronto down our throats every week and even go to the effort of putting in biased announcers such as Bob Cole. I'd have thought someone who lived in Ottawa would've been aware of this but apparently I'm wrong.

This is a goof ball post. TSN isn't obligated to show anything to you because you and 999,999 other people are of Russian descent. There are a lot more people of Pakistanian descent in Canada, do you think TSN is obligated to show a lot of cricket?

Ridiculous.

Well said. :handclap:

SENATOR,

I'm not a TSN apologist. Their coverage isn't perfect. (Although nothing in this world is). But do you think, for a split second, that this tournament would be anywhere near what it is in Canada without TSN? Hockey Canada knows it, that's why they inked a seven-year contract extension with TSN. (Hockey Canada, unlike the Canadian Curling Association, seems to know a good thing when they have it).

The Canada/U.S.S.R brawl in 1987 laid the groundwork for Canada's infatuation with this tournament. The 1991 tournament in Saskatoon, capped by John Slaney's winning goal in the last epic Canada/USSR game, was the firestarter. (That was also the year that TSN really got on board with the tournament). The 1995 tournament in Red Deer, when Canada won their third straight gold, ignited the passionate inferno that is Canada's love for the WJC. It has only continued to grow.

TSN's coverage has been brilliant. Your complaint about the lack of coverage for Russian games shows ignorance. If Russia was playing their games in Vancouver, TSN would have picked them up. But TSN is a business, and they don't have the money or the staff to send a camera and sound crew, plus commentators, all the way to Kelowna/Kamloops (which are roughly four hours from Vancouver) to cover those games.

I love the WJC. I'd love to see all of the games on TV, at least those pitting the top teams. (Could care less about Latvia vs. Norway). I'd be watching today even if Canada wasn't playing. But your expectations in terms of coverage just don't make sense from an economic (or common sense) perspective.

I like the job TSN doesn. I prefer TSN over Rogers Sportsnet, and Score. :)

if TSN really wanted to improve their broadcasts they'd stop letting Pierre Mcguire do commentary. No matter how loud he yells I still can't take him seriously.

TSN has done an amazing job covering the Juniors. They took a tournament that wasn't known in Canada and made it a holiday tradition. I don't know why people keep on complaining about TSN. It's simple if you don't like it don't watch it.

I think they need to start having all the games for the tournament in one city, so that TV networks can pick up more of the games with less hassle.

They do an hour WJHC preview a few days before it starts where they run down all the teams and all key players. They replay this show a few times.

Now, I didn't see it this year so I can't comment, but in many years that's just blatantly untrue. Sometimes it's basically just a commercial for the Canadian team with a few words about the others. I remember one year myself and the people I was watching it with got fed up when they spent a grand total of 2 minutes rattling off the names Ovechkin, Lehtonen, Pitkanen, and a few others, while having a long, boring segment about the Italian community in Toronto where Colaiacovo was from.

:biglaugh: It's true.

And I KNOW people will say that "This is a Canadian network for Canadian viewers, we don't care about the other countries. If you want to see other countries move there and watch their TV"

...TSN needs to aknowledge this is the WORLD Junior Championship, not the Canadian Junior Championship.

I also think that adding in more info on other competing nations would add a little more excitement to this as the average viewer has no idea who any of the players on any of the foreign teams are, and if the average viewer knew what Canada was up against in the games, then it would create for more excitement.

Eg. Noone cares about Canada vs. Finland, but if they do a segment before the game showcasing the Finnish talent, suddenly this becomes a more interesting matchup to watch (rather than just killing time for Canada to face USA or Russia)

I can't help but think you are doing this for comedic value. Because you can't really be serious with this rant.
