How to recognize waxed laces?

Hey guys,

this might be embarassing question because all I know about waxed laxes is that it helps with tightening your skates but how can I tell if I have waxed laces? And do I have to keep them waxed somehow?

Waxed laces, when new, have a shine to them and feel 'waxy'. They also have less give when stretched as part of the waxing process is pre-stretching them.

Given how cheap laces are I can't really see the need to re-wax them

go to a hockey shop, find a set of both waxed and unwaxed, and compare.. haha

Basically waxed laces youll be able to feel a coating over them, where has non waxed will just be exposed cloth. Also the first few times you tie your skates with waxed laces theyll rip your hands apart, so that will be another way to tell.

As above, waxed laces are usually thinner and have a waxy plastic type coating over them.

Non waxed laces are generally fatter and the only coating on them is at the ends that you thread through the eyelets. The main part of the laces you can feel the material.

Wax laces cut your fingers apart non-waxed don't.

I have always found it to be the other way around. Regular laces always burn up my hands and I feel like I domt have to tighten wax laces as much.

You can tell if the laces are waxed or not just by feeling them, and should probably be able to tell just by looking at them as well.

Go to the store and feel some waxed and unwaxed laces. Better yet, buy a pair of each and try them out. Unwaxed are soft, and waxed are hard.
