I made the title pretty lengthy so people can avoid it if they want.
**This isn't a bitch about the refs thread**
This is a legit complaint about the general philosophy that has been allowed to pollute the game. This whole concept that the ref is gonna just randomly take one of two to the box as a way of stopping the shenanigans at the net (that was getting out of control in the 80s) is just the definition of overcompensation.
I get that refs, on a sleepy Wednesday night throughout the dog-days of the season, probably are encouraged to get the game going faster and players throwing jabs at the net doesn't really help with that . So, randomly just picking one of the two guys is effective because, ultimately, you don't know if the ref is gonna screw you or not and that's the power that they flaunt.

Full stop

(1)Playoffs need hate and no team needs to get screwed in order for the refs to have an easier night.
(2) I'm sure the refs are financially compensated for their time, so no apologies needed if some swipes are taken at the net.
(3) let guys get some of that chippy hate building at the net when the whistle blows without the fear of a random ticky-tack call.
The NHL needs to re-direct their refs on this, especially in the playoffs.
