Just saw something that seems rather unusual. In back to back nights we had Pavelski and Draisaitl both score 4 goals for their respective teams and they both lost. I am sure there are instances of this happening in the regular season in some sort of obscure game, but I can't imagine this being a thing in the playoffs. I can't think of a single time off the top of my head where a player scored 4 goals but lost. Sittler and Leach both had 5 goal games in 1976 and won. Mario did it too. The Rocket comes to mind as well. I know there has to be another one out there somewhere. Like a 9-6 game or something where one player on the losing team had a wicked game. But does anyone remember one in the playoffs? And if not when did this happen in the regular season?

It's happened 5x in playoff history

It's happened 22x in regular season history

It's not playoffs, but off the top of my head, Auston Matthews scored four in his NHL debut, but the Leafs lost to the Senators in OT.

Good catch actually. My regular season link was filtered by regulation time losses only, and didn't include OT losses.

With OT losses you have 4 more cases:

That's actually incredible that its happened 3 other times. Ferraro being the most recent in 1993 before the other night. Savard in 1986 and they still somehow lost to the Leafs. McDonald in 1977 against the Flyers. Lanny had a great playoff in 1977, the Leafs just kept running into the Flyers those years.
