How much support for Sweeney as GM?

At this point, I want to see what he does at the trade deadline. So i guess I'm going to say average for the moment.

I have more faith in him than JJ or Cam, but I'm not sure that's much of a compliment.

What do you really want that first option to be and I may be able to edit it?

Thanks Wally, appreciate it. Just wanted to mirror what I did for Jacobs and Neely.

If you could change it to "Think he's an excellent GM" that would be great.

I went with average.
The main reason is to me he's still 'incomplete'. I view a GM horizon at 3 to 5 years to see what the impact and plan is and what was done or not done.

That's me.

High marks for drafting and developing
I liked the Lucic,Jones and Hamilton trades

Didn't like last years trade deadline moves or lack of (Loui)

Seems reluctant to move "his" prospects to better this team

I would like to see the selling off of a few pieces of the old core, so as of now he's average but between the upcoming Deadline,Draft and FA that will make or break him

Ill give him a 1.5-5

I think he's done a good job of putting prospects back in our pool but a lot of people over value these prospects. All teams have "good prospects" it's all how they develope and turn into good players and there are no guarantees of anything. This team in my opinion is caught in limbo as I feel no one knows what direction they want to go in and with some of his questionable signings I wonder if he even knows.

I try to look more at what he has done at the NHL level and it's been bad as it seems he wants to compete but did not get the right guys at all.

Traded Lucic which I hated only to sign a much worse version of him in David Backes and Matt Belesky.

Signed K. miller and Mcquaid to bad contracts. I like the players but Hatteeee the contracts.

Balked on the D. Hamilton trade. Wish he showed more stones and held out for more.

Has not replaced any holes at all and has essentially given this team way to many 4th liners and 6-7 D man to play with.

This team wanted to compete this year and they don't look close.

Now that I'm finding Neely is doing more than making suggestions on the pro side and has little if any on the amateur side I'm going 5

I can't vote but if I could going 5

We have to look at his situation as a GM in a vacuum. I won't consider his role as the AGM in what seemed to be a very dysfunctional front office. He came into a club that missed the playoffs, had cap problems, and had little in the prospect cupboard (sorry Griffith and Subban).

He solved our cap problems very quickly by shipping out Lucic and Hamilton. He traded for picks, and not piles of steaming crap. So that is a huge plus and a change from previous management.

He has not solved the problem of our on-ice product. Though we are starting to see the first of his picks on this team (Carlo). We have been teased about the future with Lauzon and McAvoy at the World Jr's this year.

His deadline last year was a failure. No bones about it, he brought in half measures to try and make a splash. It didn't work, and this team might have actually been made worse by the players brought in.

I think Sweeney is good overall. He is the smartest guy in the room right now. He is clearly not looking to compete right now, regardless of whatever he says in the media. This team is transitioning, and it seems his plan is for it to be filled with leadership guys. I certainly can't remember a time when we've had this much talent in the pool. Lauzon, JFK, McAvoy, Heinen, Senyshin, Zboril, Gabrielle, Lindgren, Kuraly (I know i'm missing some) are all looking like they could become NHL regulars. If 5 of these guys pan out, it is an absolute home run.

LA / NH Boston?
I am, so far, reasonably impressed. Unlike most, I do believe the people writing about the Bruins as a really good, but unlucky team. As a fan who tries to incorporate analytics into understanding of the game, I am super excited that this team is at the top of the league in most metrics. I think Sweeney has made a shrewed move with the current coaching configuration, which is a huge part of the reason for this improvement. I attribute the Bruins' lack of points to age, shooting luck, and goaltending (horrid backups and Tuukka slipping since the Josi neck shot).

This, while our prospect pool is the best I've seen in my time as a fan of this team.

He won't get a 5 from me until he shows significant improvement in his pro player evaluations. Also I want to see how he does without Neeley breathing down his neck.

Pick a direction for the team and go into it 100%. Waffling between rebuild and trying to compete is going to continue to hurt the team long term.

I think he is better than average, but not in the top echelon. I think he's good with cap management. The Marchand contract in particular was excellent. I think he is weaker on talent assessment, and, in particular, overvalues leadership and character at the expense of skill. For example, I wonder if he even tried to get Okposo (the younger better player), or if his sights were always on Backes because of the "intangibles."

I think his fate rests on the 2015 draft. If fewer than three of those guys are good players at the NHL level by the 2018-2019 season, he should be gone.

I gave him a 4. The team is stocked with legitimate prospects and are in good shape for the future. Still think that the product on the ice should be doing better then what they have been doing so far going back to last year.

Stuns me so many people think he's done a "good" or even "average" job. That's putting a whole lot of faith in prospects we've never seen, and in the theory that many of his blunders at the NHL level are somehow not his responsibility as GM.

I mean I'm all for giving him another year and I like the player development side of him (so far), but the signings/trades at the NHL level have been bad. Arguably awful. Re-signing Marchand (who was absolutely looking to stay) is a coup, but the rest of his moves are by and large terrible. Backes, Hayes, Nash, McQuaid and Kevan, Khudobin, Liles. Aside from arguing that Backes has been okay (which is not what he was signed to be), it's ugly otherwise. I'm really surprised people are okay with that.

I think both McQuaid and Miller were signed to those deals because of the expansion draft.

He gets a 2 from me until he shows the ability to make a trade that can actually benefit the NHL team.

I like that we've stockpiled some youth, but I feel like even that was a bit accidental, since he tried to trade 3 of his first round picks for a player in 2015, and he inherited a lot of the guys we point to as good young depth... Guys like Pasta, Vatrano, Czarnik, Heinen, Blidh, Acciari, Bjork, Donato, McIntyre, Cehlarik, Gryz, O'Gara...

We should do a second poll after the deadline. How he handles this next month is critical. All in or all out? Pick one and make your mark.
