How much can NHL players earn for advertising?

Why would it be regulated? There's no limit to what a player can make on endorsements. Of course that doesn't mean that a team can somehow slip endorsement money to a player in lieu of salary to skirt the salary cap.

Some searching will show you estimates of how much the top players make annually in endorsements.
e.g. NHL’s Highest-Paid Players 2019-20: Connor McDavid And Auston Matthews Score Big
The NHL's Highest-Paid Players 2018-19: Connor McDavid On Top At $19 Million

Ovechkin: $5m
Crosby: $4.5m
McDavid: $4.5m
Matthews: $2.3m
Marner: $2m
Toews: $1.7m
Tavares: $1.7m

NHLers will pale in comparison to the NBA. McDavid is around 40% of his cap hit.

I wonder how much it would cost an independent/small company to hire an NHL player for a product endorsement of some sort...
