How many jobs have you had?

As I finished school relatively recently, I have had quite a few jobs, mostly in a contract position. I just now decided to not reject a contract extension at my current job that I have had for 4 months, as though it was 40k a year, processing licenses for 40 hours a week was killing me. In updating my resume, I have noticed it was getting crowded with like 5 jobs. Anyone else worked in a few different places?

edit: chose to keep job

Tailor your resume to the job you are applying for

somewhat yes somewhat no, I think you tailor your cover letter if they want that... resume can be more generic but you can touch it up to put focus on a few things if you want to make that look more applicable

you def don't need to put your experience as a babysitter in 8th grade and stuff like macca's prob doesn't need to be on there unless you have no other experience

I only care about the jobs that had a fair amount of responsibility. I did payroll once for a company, my work experiences as a student

5 jobs on a resume is pretty standard. It doesn't really get too crowded until past 6 or so IMO. But if your old stuff is completely irrelevant, feel free to drop it.

I've had:
Subway in high school - 3 years
Pizza delivery in university - 2 years
Accounting firm post-graduation (current) - 1 year

If I were to apply for somewhere else, I'd keep all 3 despite the 1st two being completely irrelevant and just focus most of it on the most recent with the other two being kinda just 'add-ons'.

IMO places like subway, mcdonald's etc when you were young have their place on your CV. Especially if the reference is still good.

I think sometimes it can play to you favor, because people know you've dealt with the public for a few years doing ***** work. Shows you have some experience in a field that can be quite difficult at times dealing with customers.

Obviously if that's all you have and you're applying for a job you're unqualified for it won't look good. But if it's in addition to several previous jobs where you also have a good reference and are more related to the current job you're applying for IMO I think it can help you.

Of course, too many jobs with very little time at each can look bad though.

resume should be edited for every "big boy" job you apply for.

cover letters can be generic - no one reads them.

complete opposite imo but I agree nobody really cares about cover letter. Cover letter is where you apply what you know to what they have on their posting

Never put more than 5 on your resume, the interviewer is going to take one look at it and dump it. Way too much content.
