Who cares about Marners 100 point seasons....? if he dries up offensively in the playoffs and continues to make critical errors in big games then he is replaceable. If the season is not extended tomorrow then he will be 3/3 for poor playoffs since signing for 11 million and he has made several costly mistakes in must win games.

First, Marner has shown up this playoff and vs a far better team than last year's Habs. What are you arguing here?

Second, you advocating giving up Marner for literal lottery tickets and you think that's gonna give this team a better chance to win than running it back next year?

I just want to be clear here:

Trading anyone of the Matthews, Marner and/or Nylander is a trade for lottery tickets.

The lottery tickets could be anything, they could even be Matthews, Marner or Nylander!

They are playing up to their potential (for the first time) through 6 games against a great team.

Hard to do the blame game right now.
Well one bad game out of 6 but yeah, they've played well. If it wasn't for our recent history of collapsing in game 7, everyone would be pumped for tomorrow. There's parity in this league, most 1st round series are tough battles and so is ours, and we're facing one of the top teams in the league. There is literally nothing to complain about here and everyone wanting to tear it all apart should just wait one more day IMO. If they play the way they did in game 7 last year then we'll have all summer to talk about who's heads should roll but if they battle the way they've done for most of these playoffs, we might be playing for a while yet.

If Tampa went on to win a 3rd Cup, the roster will change but I doubt much else.
It has to due to the cap anyway. I have trouble seeing them as good next year due to the cap.

The series is tied up after the refs gave the defending Cup champs game 6.
Dubas et al have assembled a team that is very competitive with another proven very good NHL team.
I can't easily see them firing Dubas if they lose game 7. Only maybe if they get embarrassed in that game and the media & fans go wild hunting for heads ...

Montreal went on a run last year by beating great teams. Why can’t we beat the good teams. Isn’t. Dubas’s job to build a top team
There's no excuse for not beating the Habs. They were, and still are, trash.

BUT - in most normal, non-covid affected years the leafs end up in a series against a team much better than they deserve to be playing. If Boston beats them in 2018 and 2019, so be it. If tampa wins this year, so be it. but wouldn't it be nice to have a run? To get to win a series or two by playing a weak team that we deserve by playing so well in the regular season, and THEN lose to a team like Boston or Tampa?

I mean, we all want to win a cup. But I look back fondly at 93 and 94, and 99 through 04, even though we didn't win the ultimate prize. It was a lot of great, high-stakes hockey. We're missing out on the chance to even make those memories, never mind win a cup, thanks partially to this format.

Who said lottery tickets? Dubas will know his return and it may be for established players. Simple fact is if Marner doesn't have a great game 7 than he's played 3 postseasons making 11 million and he's made about a 7 million dollar impact and even less in some of the playoffs. Sure we can keep waiting for him to make an 11 million dollar impact.... but the facts are this is year 3/3. I'm just tired of waiting.

Again.... hopefully tomorrow is different. I just want to win.

Keefe will be gone...thank you. He sucks and has worse game management for all coaches in the NHL.

I hope Dubas gets canned to. The player agents bent him over.

I 100% disagree with Dubas, no matter what happens he is safe

Normally I would say Keefe would be safe but Trotz is available and that is one hell of a upgrade

You're assuming they are traded for draft picks. Nylander could be traded for a defenceman, a goalie, or assets that could be flipped for something else.

Keefe will have to go.
Spreadsheet Dubas should go too.
Nylander should be traded.
Campbell should lose his #1 goalie job, but be kept as the backup (assuming a #1 can be found via trade or free agency).
Yeah taking away Dubas' spreadsheets away will be helpful. Does he even use spreadsheets?

This thread could have been a celebration one if the refs would simply do their jobs.

I hope the ability to challenge penalties becomes a conversation.

I agree...each coach should be able to challenge a high-sticking penalty because those are more objective...was it a high-stick or not? Would stop players from embellishing with their heads snapping back...or maybe avoid a 4 min penalty because guy hit his face with his own stick and bled.

Yes, challenge embellishment... would embarrass players.

He’s over ppg this post season while playing crucial pk minutes wtfdym

That’s a tough pill to swallow. Nylander’s really good and that could’ve been avoided had Tavares not been brought in.

It's astounding how every blunder and failure is blamed on anyone but the gm of the team.

You know, the guy who decides who plays and who coaches.

Lots of these posters are dubas fan boys. It's honestly weird.
Dubas vision has been flawed since day one. He bet his job on these guys. If they lose so does he. Fire the bum. I want a GM that the players repect and fear, not a guy who has stars in his eyes and picks up the check.

Yeah that's what it should be, it's not like hooking or tripping or interference there are other factors involved. You make contact with the neck and head of an opponent with the stick it's pretty clear.

Almost impossible to determine what will happen. The team is good, but how many times can you have the same results? Either way, I haven’t given them any money since the loss the Columbus. I’ll continue the trend until they win a round.

I think Dubas will be gone! 6 Straight first round exits is unacceptable. Analytics doesn't win you cup. He didn't address the leafs back end. Not enough discipline on team, can't sit back on a 1 goal lead against back to back stanley cup champs. Gotta attack all the time.

I don’t think Shanahan fires Dubas. I don’t think Dubas fires Keefe. I think if it’s up to them, it’s more tweaking to the roster. Maybe you see a big trade happen with one of Marner or Nylander?

However, the main question is, will the MLSE Board clean house? Considering the teams performance in the regular season, and how they’ve played thus far in the playoffs, I’m not sure they will.
