As a Leafs fan my second favourite team was always the Detroit Red Wings, got used to them making the playoffs year after year along with several cup wins in 2002 and 2008.

How many more years do you think it will be before they make the playoffs again? Although they are in the basement I do think they have a few good players including Tyler Bertuzzi and Larkin but obviously there is still a long way to go.

If Veleno, McIssac, Zadina, Berggren, Seider and Tuomisto all turn out than maybe. They will need another 2-3 years of picking top 10 in the draft.

Frame of time is way too broad to have a decent discussion based on the selections.

Probably 2-4 years. Depends on how quickly and how well Rasmussen/Veleno/Seider comes along and where we pick this year.

For instance, I don't think we'll be a playoff team next year, but Detroit has a strong possibility to add three top 10 picks to their roster next season. That makes a difference.

I would think 0-5 years but itll be in year 4 or 5 I think. Depends on lottery luck though. If theyre adding Lafreniere to the roster next year with Seider and Rasmussen thats a good chunk of skill in the lineup all of a sudden with Zadina being full time right off the hop. Four top 9 picks added as full time players is really solid plus they already have a good first line.

I would guess another really high pick next year as well and then maybe on the upswing after that.

What's the hfboards opinion on Red Wings? As a longtime RW fan, I see no hope. Without big FA signing in Detroit, I won't see a light at the end of the tunnel. I voted 5-10 years in the poll.

Someone has to replace Boston in the Atlantic in the next few years. I'm guessing 4-5 years till they make the playoffs again.

I don't like their rebuild so far... I think it could be a long drought for them. 10 years+

Your time frame is way to unrealistic. 3 years from now is realistically when they should be making a solid push. Would be extremely terrible if they wouldn't make it once in years 3-5.

0-5 years is realistic. It kinda depends on lottery luck obviously but they have a young first line center/top line, a couple high end young wingers in Raymond and Zadina and their D pipeline is really, really stocked.

A couple more high end picks in the top 5 range to add to this group of young guys and they should be alright. The past 3 years, theyve had 3 second rounders (one year was a late first), and these are the types of prospects that all of a sudden a couple really solid NHLers are going to come out of and compliment their high pick core in a couple years

They won’t make in 2 years. Way too much blind optimism from Wings fans.

They need the wheels to completely come off of Boston/Tampa if they want a chance in the next 5.
They still don’t have that game breaking player and even if they draft one in the next couple seasons it’d likely take a couple years for their young guys to get the point of competing.

Making the playoffs is a pretty low threshold when close to half the teams make it every year. I’d say 0-5 years to sneak in once maybe. But a lot longer to be a contender. Still lots of work to do and some more pain. Some of the highly touted new prospects will no doubt disappoint just like for every team.

Weird poll options.

0-5 years is a very long time period.

I think it's likely most teams will make the playoffs at some point in the next five years, considering half the league makes it in each year.

So yeah, I'll go with 0-5 years. Probably closer to the "5" than the "0," though.

They haven't had a chance to handle enough of the framework yet. I'm going for 5-6 years.

When Yzerman came into Tampa they had a lot more young good pieces to work with. Steve is gonna need a few more drafts to make this work.

If we got a top 3 pick in this year's draft I would have said 0-5 years and guessing that it would be 3-4.
With the Wings getting 4th instead, I'd say 5-10, leaning more towards 5 or 6 years away. The cupboard was really left bare by Holland and company prior to 2018's draft.
