I know Sweden used to be 2 years but Marcus Hogberg still seems to be thought of as a Sens prospect - so how long do teams retain the rights of players by country/league??

Read "Article 8.6: Reserve List-Exclusive Rights" in the CBA and that'll cover it. For example, Hogberg was drafted from a club outside NA, therefore OTT holds his exclusive NHL rights until June 1, 2017 as a 2013 draft pick, or four years. If he were drafted as a 20-y/o, it would mean only two years of exclusive rights from that draft.

Yes that is the correct answer regarding Laine and other players contracts...

See what i did there?

This part makes it sound like if a club doesn't offer an ELC to any CHL draft pick by June 1st of the year after their draft, then they lose their rights.

(ii) Subject to the provisions of subsection (iii) below and Sections (b), (c) and
(d) below, if, on or before June 1 of the calendar year next succeeding the
Entry Draft, the claiming Club makes a Bona Fide Offer (as defined
below) to its claimed Player of an SPC, the Club shall retain the exclusive
right of negotiation for the services of such Player up to and including the
second June 1 following the date of his selection.
