Not asking about players, but the people that watched those Canucks, does this team play very similar to those teams or does it look like he, Arniel, and Ulf adapted to the Rangers and play a bit of a different style?

The Rangers attack is far more balanced than the Canucks ever was, for one thing. Having the Sedins compared to not having the Sedins will do that, though.

I didn't follow them that closely, but watched them when I could when they used to be good.

One thing I think differs is the defensive coverage. He ran a stricter man coverage in Vancouver - like he seemed try for the first 15 or so games here - while we're seeing more of a hybrid defensive coverage in NY.

Another thing is zone entrance. On the Rangers PP a winger will often get the puck in the NZ and carry it over the blue line. We don't do that as much on ES. VA did. My guess is the percentage of zone entrances through dumps is at least a quarter higher here (though I have no statistical data to back it up, just an impression).

They way they play (not comparing quality, just style) once the OZ is gained and they are able to establish pressure, I would say is fairly similar.

Interesting considering how we dump the puck in far less than under Torts. I wonder if they dump it in all the time in Vancouver.

Forechecking wise, Vigneault runs a flexible 1-2-2 scheme. I know, you're thinking, "It's THE Trap...". But what I've noticed is that coach AV encourages more puck pursuit than traditional 1-2-2 coaches who like to sit back. And while the Rangers don't deploy a 2-1-2 forecheck as often since Torts was fired, they've become more opportunistic when driving deep into the offensive zone. It's a prudent move, prioritizing economy of effort. Also, in another wrinkle that distinguishes AV from other trap-happy coaches, he's continued to encourage the defensemen to pinch in and support the forwards down low which is familiar from Torts' time with the Rangers.

So while AV doesn't have his kind of guys in the lineup. He's inherited a coachable group of skaters with enough mental agility to play and adapt to a new system.
