How do you feel about McDavid never playing in the Olympics? (Mod warning post 120)

Indifferent.

And they can still play in the Olympics if they want to. Just have to sign their next contract in a league that allows participation.
 
Great for the game of hockey. Exactly what we need to grow the game and entertain the fans. Don't allow the kids to compete for the greatest honor in sports. The poor owners need more money in their pockets. Nobody thinks about how unfortunate their situations are. Great decision all around, makes complete sense. Shocked it to the NHL this many years to finally come up with this brilliant idea. Only if they were able to stop Lemieux and Gretzky from playing together back in the day, one could only imagine how great the benefit would've been. But no point in crying over spilled milk.
 
It's terrible. So many of hockey's greatest moments have occurred with players wearing their nation's jersey, and the world cup, while kind of fun, just doesn't have the same gravitas.

This. If they did another World Cup of Hockey in in 4 years McDavid would still be on the 23 team and wouldn't play with Crosby on team canda
 
who cares...last olympics, the hockey was forgettable....the NHL schedule was condenced which made alot of games a drag...and it made the NHL product worse....
if NHL players want to go, let them,...but let the NHL continue, don't shut down the league for 3 weeks just to accommodate ...and then we'll see how much fans want their players to go.

A good compromise would be to move the NHL to the summer Olympics even though that's a way more awkward fit with all the other ice stuff in the Winter Olympics. They could share a stadium with the Basketball Arena and put a sheet of ice under the hardwood floor.
 
I'd say sad about McDavid, angry about Eichel, and indifferent about Lainie.

Greatest honor of sports is to win Stanley Cup, or Hart Trophy for individuals, not participation in some Mickey Mouse Exho, when stacked Canadian feasts on some semi-amateours...

Don't care for Olympics. NHL>>> So called "internationnal hockey"...

McDavid is a superstar player, so I'd be shocked if he didn't do what Ovechkin is going to do. And didn't they talk about the contract of next two winter olympic games? If so, McD is almost only 30 when he surely plays for team canada if not way before.

It would require Ovechkin level (high) ego, and Ovechkin level (low) IQ... McDavid doesn't seems to be a person like that, so why would you be shocked ???

This is incredibly Russophobic. Ovechkin is actually an extremely smart guy. He just earned a PhD. Crosby has never even been to college.

I was just messing around. In reality, I've always liked Olympic hockey with the NHL players; it was always fun to try to predict Team Canada and then debate it. It would've been awesome to see McDavid and Crosby play together, and I would've liked to see if Stone could've made the team. Having said that, I'd give back every Gold Canada has won with these NHL players to have Hasek remain healthy in 2006 for Ottawa. If NHL players end up going I'll watch closely, but still worry about a killer injury. If they don't go, I won't have nearly as much interest in it but the NHL will still be going on so I'll just keep watching the Sens and be fine.

Your summer hockey Olympic idea is interesting.

Kinda irrelevant as hockey Canada would not let him on the team. They get to much money from the NHL to step on any toes. Same with USA hockey.

Unfortunate for the young players, and unfortunate that the league failed to see the huge marketing opportunity that could have been Crosby and McDavid vs. Eichel and Matthews on the world's biggest stage.

They'll play in China.

South Korea just isn't appealling enough to the NHL to go, but China will be a more high key Olympic event.

Unfortunately by then Crosby will be a bit past his prime I think, so we may not get to see McDavid + Crosby in their relative primes play together. That part of it sucks.
