Host Gifts for Swedes?

Hey all! I'm visiting Sweden in January for two weeks and staying with some friends. I'd like to give them a gift to thank them for hosting me. Week one is with a University professor in his mid-40s living in Umeå. He's a big hockey fan.

Week two is in Lund staying with a 30 y/o radiologist. He is into soccer, but doesn't seem to be as big as into hockey.

They both drink, so is there an alcohol I can get here in Chicago that they can't? I dunno... I'm really at a loss. What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance!

Depends, is he a Thor or an Odin man?

You can never go wrong with a nice valknut pendant.

If he's a Thor man you could surprise him with something Mjolnir-related

If he's more of an Odin man, you could find some kind of artifact with a representation of Sleipnir, or perhaps a raven-themed necklace. If you could find a nice little shop where they sell hand-made wood carvings, it can be especially appreciated.

You may also want to find out if they have a decent drinking horn, which can also be a good choice.

Drinking horns make a spectacular gift for Swedes.

I would recommend bringing some classic North American food, buy it fresh from McDonalds and bury it on the beach the minute you arrive in Sweden to preserve the freshness. Bring them to the beach and surprise them with this delicacy

yes. This beats light beer, manikins or drinking horns. As a bonus, the preservatives in the food will add a tasty fresh North American flavor.
