Cool. You familiar with the "O'Brien Trophy"?... One of the most beautiful hockey trophies ever created, awarded under 4 different categories between the years 1910 (NHA~NHL) & 1950 before being retired.

Very nice indeed... Love the Montreal WCC in particular. :thumbu: ... Medals also interesting.... in fact, hockey related medals, watches & rings of both early North American, Russian, Scandinavian, European & British origins would also be of interest to see.

This Trophy was first presented in 1887 to the winners of the Amateur Hockey Association of Canada.
It was used up until 1897-98 when it was changed to the Halifax City Hockey League Cup.
From 1899-1910 it was named the Maritime Amateur Hockey League Cup.

This image shows the trophy missing 2 Hockey Figures on each side, and 1 Hockey Figure missing from the top of the trophy.

The Halifax Crescents were the first team to win the prize in the Maritimes pictured here in 1898.

Here it is in 1907 with the Moncton Victoria's along with the Gibson Cup( The New Brunswick Amateur Hockey League Champions from 1903-1910).

The Cosby Cup was used in the old OHA from 1890-1899 before being replaced by the John Ross Robertson Cup shown in the second image.

The trophy of the American Amateur Hockey League between the 1906–07 and 1911–12 seasons.
The trophy was won permanently by the Brooklyn Crescents after the 1911–12 season, when the team won its third leg on the trophy.

Riley Cup, awarded to the ECHL Playoff Champions from 1989 to 1996.

latest

It has since been superseded by the Kelly Cup. To be honest, I like the cleaner look of the Riley Cup better.

The Atlantic City Boardwalk Trophy, which was awarded to the Eastern Hockey League champion until 1972, disappeared for about 22 years before being relocated to the HHOF in 1994.

Finding the Atlantic City Boardwalk Trophy

.... wow, quite the story behind that trophy (and the others mentioned).... theres a link to another article in the link provided, highly entertaining, well written piece about the Eastern League, the life & times of Tommy Lockhart (who found the Boardwalk Trophy in a Pawn Shop), MSG, Boston.... all making for a fascinating read..... Thx iamjs... great find.

Ostsee
Although that has the unfortunate side effect of preventing the trophies from getting very old, in Davos, Switzerland they have a proud tradition of decommissioning the championship trophy immediately after winning it:
