I know the basics of hockey, but I love the game and want to learn more about it. I am a football (American) coach at the high school level and study the game in detail. Hockey is a great sport, but I'd like to be able to watch the Sabres and know more about the strategies and intricate details of how/what is going on on the ice.

Some day, maybe I could play a little as well... (recreationally in local leagues or just shoot arounds at the local rink)

There is a Hockey for Dummies book as well as a Coaching Hockey for Dummies Book that I saw, but I figured I'd check with people who would know much more about this topic before purchasing.

Thanks for any help!

Thanks. Are there any actual print books that you'd recommend? I might be old school but I like having the physical media in front of me.

USA hockey CEP (coaching education program) printed manuals can be ordered online, not sure if I'm allowed to provide links on this forum.

The strategies/techniques/drills that USA hockey & hockey Canada use are current. There is a ridiculous amount of very advanced information there. As a US football coach, you'd appreciate how advanced the official coaching training network has become in the US.

The hockey & coaching for dummies books are probably fine as a start, but likely won't go into much detail about most topics.
