The game's growth Worldwide is astonishing to look at, we're seeing Hockey develop in Kenya, India, China, Japan, Korea, Argentina, Mexico, etc, videos such as these ones really instill why we love this game so much.

Most times, the professional game is such a joke this reminds us of why we all love the game in the first place.

Amazing video!

I've known that hockey has had a presence in Africa for quite a while now, but it's great to see the growth of the game reaching the East of the continent.

When I was in South Africa, they were hosting the DIV III WC and there was a little buzz regarding it in Cape Town. There was also a store in Cape Town selling NHL jerseys (I believe they had Leafs, Canucks, Rags and Flyers). South Africa, being the most developed country on the continent by a wide margin has a decent hockey community. You can play the game in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria and play in a competitive league. Namibia has similar demographics to South Africa and the game is also played there on ice (I believe in Windhoek). Great to see the game growing!

I think my brother scored a hat trick against Honduras, playing for Canada in a minor IIHF tournament in Mexico (last year?). Was totally surprised to hear of hockey developing south of the Mexican border (Mexico being a surprise itself, despite relative proximity to the US/Canada). They weren't very good from a national team perspective, of course, but they might be good enough to beat most people's local high school team, which is amazing enough.

There was a Pan-American tournament in Mexico last year but no Honduras. Columbia, Argentina and Brazil though. You dont have to say who your brother is, but is he on this roster for the tournament?

Yes he is on the list (though they've pilfered his bio details from the wrong guy on eliteprospects, lol), and that's the tournament, so maybe it was Columbia. Could have sworn it was Honduras, though I'm currently planning a trip for the spring which starts in Mexico and heads south from there, so that may be polluting things.

Nice find! I've been at that rink in Nairobi. Just a coincidence though. I was in the building on a business trip (it's a hotel) and saw they had a rink and wanted to check it out. It was empty and it was strange to see a rink where the corners of the rink were sharp (90 degrees). Still cool though. Not what you'd expect to find in Kenya.

Lol I love the square rink. That plus their wooden sticks and minimal protection made me think of the 50s and 60s hockey you see in old videos. Could the next Maurice Richard be in Kenya? ;)

I guess no one likes to play goalie in Kenya.

Thought the same thing, though I guess it shouldn't be surprising.

Really cool video. The passion we hockey players feel for our sport is unlike almost anything else. Once you catch the bug, it's really tough to break free from it. Those guys were much better than I expected when opening the video. They clearly put a lot of time into the game. Just awesome to see. Thank you for sharing.
