Henriksson with a great shot to take the lead 44 seconds left... Setup by Raymond.

I like that "Everybody loves Raymond"

I wonder what Philip Broberg has done this summer, it has certainly done him good. He's dominating out there with this offensive rushes and strong two-way game. Along with Lucas Raymond, by far the best Swedish player imo. Pretty surprising that a Swedish team that really lacks any scoring depth outside the top line made it to the final.

I agree Raymond, Broberg, Holz in that order for me were the stars of the Swedish team

I don't understand how Russia managed to lose the game. Saw the first two periods and they controlled the play.

I'm a bit surprised that Sweden made it to the GMG. The 2001 group has been terrible and it was evident especially at the U17 WHC where they lost 4-1 vs Russia, 7-2 vs Canada Red, 6-1 vs Finland, 5-1 vs USA and 4-2 vs Canada Black. When the 02's have played, this team has been performing better and even managed to win a 4 nations tournament in 2017, but that's about it. Nice to see them perform like this without one of their best players in Simon Holmstrom.

And oh, Dahlin's father is the assistant coach for this team, if you haven't noticed :)

I was impressed with both teams.

Russia's play in particular I liked. They were beat today but I think after Canada they were the second deepest team.

One area Russia has really grown in is their board play. It's funny I rewatched "Cold War on Ice" about the 72 Summit Series. You really see modern a hockey a combination of tough free attacking Canadian style and Tarasov's beautiful scientific approach the Soviets took when they started playing in the 1950s. Tangent aside, the modern game is a blend of that stylistic clash and resulting evolution of the game.

For Tre Kronor. Big game players make big plays in big games. That's a motto we're taught early on when our kids start playing organized hockey before grade school. We saw it again for them, their guys who needed to step up did.

Overall, great competition. It's nice seeing our next generation play best-on-best hockey, this is important and good for the Hockey Powers to maintain.

I think the top 4 teams from this event are top hockey nations best-on-best. Suomi is still a bit behind, but by 2022 I think they'll be a force. Pound for pound the Finns are as passionate as any country about hockey, including Canada.

Lastly, **** the Yanks. No mercy boys, destroy them. Go Canada Go!!

Please... the russians outplayed and outshoot them. 50 minutes they were the better team, totally different skill level. Let them play 10 times and the russians win 8.

I wasn't talking about this game specifically, but more the fact that they even made it to the final with regards to their previous results, which I mentioned earlier in that post.

I dont agree i think Sweden was better team overall in game. Russians just skated around in perimeter only couple good scoring changes. Swedes had better scoring opportunities and better high end skill players. I think Sweden would win 60% of time if these teams met again. Ofc Swedish age class is not best this year but generally Sweden produces better junior teams last 10 years than Russia deeper more skilled etc hockey program in Swe is just better and maybe you could say Swedish people are genetically more talented than Russians as a race. When you think about it Swedes have so many NHL players and population only 10 million compare to Russias 150.. And overall Sweden is better than Russia in hockey even tough hockey is about equally popular in both counties it tells how much better work Sweden does producing hockey players.

Sweden played a defensive masterpiece. They used their superior size and strength to force Russia to the outside and behind the net, where you can't score. When Sweden beats Russia, which is often, that is the formula they use.

The Russians controlled a lot of the play and had the puck most of the game, and you have to give the guys credit for a great effort throughout the entire tournament. What hurt them in this game was their individualism and lack of team play. Podkolzin's goal is a case in point. He took the puck inside his zone and tried to stickhandle through the entire team. It worked because of his brilliant talent, but how often does it work, even for a guy as talented as he is? 99 out of 100 times, he would have the puck knocked off his stick. A lot of guys were trying to stickhandle through the defense instead of making passes and then fighting for position in front of the net. Passing and team play seemed like it was missing.

Hopefully, they will have a good game on Saturday and take home a bronze medal.

Sweden wins often because they have the funds to invest in building rinks and hockey development, and they have done a great job of developing youth players. Your theories on the racial superiority of the Swedish people seem extremely moronic. Are you one of those eugenics guys who goes around measuring the slope of people's foreheads?

First, there is no way that you could say that Sweden outplayed Russia or had more talent, although I would give Sweden the edge in the 3rd period. If Sweden was capable of retaining puck possession, they would have done it. Nor is Sweden dominating world hockey overall. They have one Olympic Gold in 2006, but that doesn't prove they are in total control. They have had 2 good years at the WC after a decade of bad years. Let's see a few more accomplishments before we crown the Swedes as the master race!

2 post, 6 pp almost without opportunities... no need to complicate simple things... except for the first line, i saw almost no swede with high end skills... this is pretty much a one line team.
