Yes, and also what his role with TPS is at that time. If its' the same as Rasmus Kupari, he could easily be cleared.

Complaining about Finland's performance at a non-IIHF tournament is still completely pointless, since for the federation and the team, it's how well they do in the last torunament of the season that matters, not the first. Niemelä said something similar in the May issue of Jääkiekkolehti. In fact I checked it, he said everything they had worked on, started clicking at the December 5-nations tournament.

You're right.
Yeah i even i read Niemelä's comments in jääkiekkolehti this past May.

I'm kinda pissed of those whiners who are complaining here about Finland's bad performances in Hlinka tournament.
Those peoples are ignoring that fact Finland hasn't succeed for years in Hlinka tournament.

And so what if one Hlinka tournament isn't so good to us.
Finland takes this tournament as a practice and player scouting for U18 WJC's which isn't wrong choice.

We are defending world champions in Sweden next years U18 WJC's and i'm sure that team which represent our country will do their best and play their best games there and if / when they come home with medals it'll be great.

And what comes to Kakko and his participating to U18 WJC's i'm sure TPS coaching staff and TPS GM Antero Niittymäki will do right decision what ever it will be.

I do not see why there is a need to artificially elevate the status of this tourney. It's a warm up/exhibition for the most part. Of course hypothetically anybody could be available, but what's the point if the level of preparedness this time of the year is so freaking low. Do we even need national teams to start taking it seriously and begin preparations in the beginning of July? Occasionally it's a coming out party for a prospect (for me this year it's Barron), but I would not hold it against a prospect if he is not killing it in August.

the fabled world cup 1996 was in august.

Because he played in the U20 summer showcase.

This tournament is as close as we can get at the U18 level to best-on-best. Granted the Americans don't send their USNTDP team but that's by choice not because those players would be unavailable to participate.
USA Hockey also holds their summer eval camp for the WJC around the same time, so Jack Hughes wouldn't have been here right away..

I am kinda baffled how the great american juniors rarely translate to mens international success. Because USA seems to have the deepest junior pool in the world now.
Things should improve at the international level with the coming generation - Matthews, Eichel, Jones, Werenski, Gaudreau, McAvoy, Hughes brothers, Ghost, Connor, Boeser, etc.

Of course, who knows when the next true best-on-best will happen?

Finns tie the game 1-1 on powerplay either Aaltonen or might have been tipped by Miettinen

Mid to late second period I wrote down "SUI 8" as a player to keep an eye on. During the last stoppage, I looked up who he was and saw he was a 2020 eligible...kept an eye on him and at the 2nd intermission put down some notes and tacitly put that he's a potential top 50 pick in 2020...in the 3rd, I underlined that last note haha

Simon Knak...

It didn't come easy, but finally Czechs buried some. Although even in this game they could and perhaps should have scored more.
Martin Has could go high in the draft.

PS: It's been years since we saw Czech-Slovak battle at Hlinka, should make the placement game somewhat interesting.

The only Swiss guy who stood out to me in the game with Canada was #6 on D. Your post reminded me to look him up, and it's Noah Delemont, apparently "top prospect" for 2020. I guess I was supposed to know about him. Doh!

Then again, I wasn't aware of Barron either, haha.
