I was reading through the "one-dimensional" thread and it got me thinking. I'm not good with researching these kind of things, what player has had the highest goal - assist differential in their career? Or even a season? As in, a really high amount of goals and a comparatively lower amount of assists.

And for amusement purposes, I always found Rick Nash's 41g - 16a season to be hilarious.

Pavel Bure's 59G 33A season has a differential of 26. Not the worst ratio, but a ridiculous season nonetheless (29.5% of the teams goals). 26 differential beats Nash and Bondra's 25 differential. Anyone better in the modern era?

What about guys like Gomez who rack up assists but can't score to save their life? Or PMDs who rack up assists? Just brainstorming... or did you mean exclusively G > A guys?

Brett Hull had a few years where he especially enjoyed setting up the one timer on the powerplay in st. louis
89-90: 72 goals 41 helpers
90-91: 86 goals 45 assists
91-92: 70 goals 39 assists

Oates:
89-90:23 goals 79 helpers
90-91:25 goals 90 assists- in only 61 GP
91-92:10 goals 59 assists- 54 GP

ya if we go the other way then Henrik sedin had 16 G and 75A for a differential of 59 which is a bit ridiculous

And this is why I asked for the thread to be moved to the history board.

Do you have easy access to actual stats of these guys that you can cut and paste?

I just did some quick calculations using overpass' adjusted +/- sheet which has the career stats of anyone who started post-expansion, and at least the post-expansion statas of anyone who pre-dates that.

I should have noted, this is post-expansion only.

The thing that surprises me there is Yanic Perreault. Thinking about it, I do remember him as a guy scoring 25-30 goals but only getting about 50 points, but from watching him and the way he played the game, a small soft player with magician hands who liked to play on the perimeter and frequently shared the ice with Sergei Berezin in Toronto, having a high G:A ratio just seems weird.

That being said, Berezin wasn't so much a triggerman for a playmaker as a guy who played like he was all alone on a frozen pond.

brett hull 72|41 = 31
brett hull 86|45 = 41
brett hull 70|39 = 31

tim kerr 58|26 = 32

It is, but you probably can't. Over a larger sample size, anomalies will start to regress to the mean.

For sure. Unfortunately the season was cut short so we'll never really know, but only 9 assists in half a season while putting up 30+ goals in the same time frame is a strong candidate for the "Cy Young" of hockey haha.

I think the winner might be Lanny McDonald's 66 goal season in 1982-83 (after Nash of course): 66 Goals / 32 Assists
