A few players that intrigue me:
Hunter Smith - huge, power forward.
Ben Thomas - smooth skating Dman with offensive skills who improved defensively.
Nicolas Aube-Kubel - offensive upside, not crazy about under 6' size.
Semyon Koshelev - late round pick - showed scoring ability at Int'l competitions Div. 1B level.

Generally it takes 3-5 years post draft for a goalie to cement himself as an NHLer.

Draft a goalie now, and he'll be ready by the time Henrik is 35 or 36.

They drafted Richter a year prior to Beezer winning the Vezina.

It worked.

They also lost a 6th overall pick on Al Montoya, and a 2nd rounder on a total bust Antoine Lafleur.

I wouldn't go crazy trying to draft a goalie. I would add someone in the middle rounds for depth if I like a guy, but I wouldn't waste an early pick on one unless I thought he was a future All-Star. Goalies are VERY difficult to predict at 18, and on the flip side you can often find a quality net minder for a fair price via the trade market. I'm thinking of guys like Bishop, Bobrovsky, Rask, Varlamov just to go off of the top of my head…

Anton Karlsson. If the Rangers trade up,Anton Karlsson. Size and strength. The Kings and Ducks added big boys with their picks. Big and strong. A big man and little man are fighting for the puck. Big man wins those battles over a long playoff series. Look at the Cup finals.

Enough of the smaller skilled players.

The Rangers have 5 of the next 63 picks starting with their pick at #59. #122 is Panthers 5th.

Completely different scenario. In 2004 the Rangers were a laughingstock with no established goaltending.

In 1985, the Rangers had an unproven Beezer and nothing else. They drafted Richter as insurance. But Patrick viewed Beezer as the future before and after the Richter pick.

The Rangers need another young goalie in their system. I like Skapski but who knows.

I can't believe Tampa almost got DeAngelo AND Ho-Sang. Stupid of them to trade the pick.

In any case, Tampa is going to have a ridiculous team soon even with the terrible Callahan contract.

Not sure this guy has the wheels, but if he does he really stands out.
We need size + strength (but not slow/immobile) to take the next step.

A name that intrigues me for a late pick that I haven't seen anyone talking about is Cody Donaghey. RHD, 6'1", has some offensive upside, scored over a PPG in the playoffs. Plays with Duclair in Quebec. Just turned 18 last month so I'd imagine he still has some room to grow. I haven't really watched him outside of a couple games watching Duclair, but as a RHD with some size and offense, I think he should be on our radar as a late pick. If anyone has watched him more, what are your thoughts?

I like the Anton Karlsson idea a lot. Whether he'll be around at 59 is another question.

Forwards left--Barbashev, Lemieux, Hawryluk, Kamenev, Kirkland, Karlsson, Chatham, Hunter Smith, MacInnis, Poganski, Nekolenko, De Leo, Holmstrom, Eiserman, Donato, Iverson, Point.

D-men--Dougherty, MacLeod, Pettersson, Aho, McKeown, Masin, Glover, Snuggerud, Jacobs, Bayreuther, Collins, Mattsson.

Goal--Demko, Nedeljkovic, Husso, Kahkonen, McDonald, Johansson, Soderstrom.

Ryan Rehill is a guy who interests me later.

Organizational needs supersedes drafting a goalie early. If they take one late, fine. If they can get a high end forward (preferably with size) with their first pick, that's the direction they should go.

What about moving up a few spots if Eric Cornel is still there?

I'm REALLY hoping we can nab Shane Gersich.

Is there a Duclair of this draft? someone who was ranked high then dropped a lot due to whatever? I like those picks. Although it didn't work for McColgan and St. Croix is still working.

Demko already has a year of NCAA under his belt? and look at all of his pretty numbers. He must be going soon.

Does the Shattenkirk rumor hold any truth or is it just pure speculation?

When was the last time we traded up in a draft?
