Lmao. It's tough. Last year I took Askarov first round. I just feel it's important to have a top goalie based on the point system. There was a lot of struggle late in the draft for the people who didn't have one, though you could also find a late sleeper/diamond in the rough. But also, picking Commesso just now, I know I passed on A LOT of offensive talent that will not be there the next time I pick. So it is a risk.

I got Askarov early in a draft last year...and he was bad. Year before I waited late and got burned. This is definitely the fastest I have ever seen the goalies go though.

I'm not too big on goalies in short tournament pools unless they are amazing, but I need someone competent at least.

I almost feel like getting a starter for one of the big 5 is a must for this pool. That's like 6-10 points banked if they don't crap the bed.

I got lucky last year that Alnefelt was named the starter late in the draft. This year I'm royally f***ed because there's no chance that happens again without injury. C4G has no goalies in either pool haha

I remember that. I took Wallstedt early and got like 2 points from him because he only played once or twice. That pick sucked.

The nice thing about goalies in this pool is that you can still get a lot of points from a guy having a shaky tournament if they play for a good team. They are far and away the easiest roster pieces to get points with.

Yeah thats certainly fair. Think I got an okay guy this time assuming he starts. I have changed my strategy this year somewhat, all though as soon as I lost Dach, it was tough climbing for me.

Yep. And the issue is that when a team names one (or there's vibes), I'm still fighting with 4 other guys to be the closest to grabbing them.

Ya I didnt really want to select a goalie at #1 but theres just so few legitimate starters on contenders that are actually locked into their teams #1 role that it feels essential to take one.

Picking first and then waiting until #20 puts too much risk on a goalie run occuring and being left with some scrub goalie who might give you like 0-2pts.

Or you can have the starter for whoever finishes 3rd in the USA/SWE/RUS group. Their backup gets the "easy game" in probably Switzerland and then they lose to Canada or Finland in the QF and they only get 2 points from 1 win against Slovakia. That's likely going to happen to someone, too much risk for me in the first 12 picks.
