Someone explain to me why Amirov is a better prospect than Marchenko.

Otherwise I'm just going to assume it's a Leafs thing.

He put up much better numbers in his D+1?

I personally think Amirov is much better than Robertson and should be the higher-ranked prospect

They did not play in the same league in their technical D+1 seasons. In any case, their 19 year olds seasons (Marchenko's D+2), Marchenko outscored Amirov. And then Marchenko took a huge leap in his 20 year old season to lead all U-22 players in the KHL. Amirov would need an unexpected leap to match that production. Marchenko currently has 4 pts in 3 games while Amirov is out long term with a busted shoulder.

Guy who went through this in his draft year and was still GPG + PPG + and rated* a top 15 pick.

Chaz Lucius got the answer he needed and dreaded last summer, when doctors finally determined why he was struggling with pain in his left knee.
The forward with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program Under-18 team had a bone lesion, caused by an injury to the growth plate in his knee when he was hit there by a puck two years earlier.
"Just a fluke thing," the 18-year-old said.
The solution was arthroscopic surgery to remove the lesion. But the recovery would be daunting, and it would be months before he could even think about lacing up his skates.
Entering his NHL Draft season, the news couldn't have been much worse.
Despite that, Lucius was able to stay positive and see the light before he even entered the tunnel.
"When I got the news I was really devastated," he said. "You never want to be injured as a player or as an athlete. But from that moment on I promised myself I wasn't going to get sad, I wasn't going to get disappointed and that I was going to come out better from this. And ever since, that is what I've been trying to live up to."
Lucius accomplished that, returning six months after his surgery, scoring 20 points (13 goals, seven assists) in 13 games and is No. 12 in NHL Central Scouting's final ranking for the 2021 NHL Draft.

The road Lucius has taken to preparing to hear his name called was far from easy.
Lucius had surgery Aug. 21, which involved scraping away dead bone in his leg and taking bone marrow from his back and injecting it into the affected area to stimulate new bone growth.
"With that being bone, you can't really walk on that or do anything until the bone's actually there," he said.
That meant six weeks in a wheelchair, with his leg locked in a straight brace, and attending physical therapy sessions Monday through Friday. His work included two hours per day in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber.

Lucius compared those grueling sessions to the pressure someone feels in their ears when climbing or descending in an airplane, at the same time lying in a tiny metal tube.
"You just sit in there for two hours at a time," he said. "There's not really a lot of moving around so you just kind of lay in there and just wait."
Lucius went through 44 of those two-hour sessions, and did his best to focus on the positives he was gaining.

Marchenko for me. He has improved dramatically every year since being drafted and was the highest scoring U-22 player in the KHL, ahead of guys like Podkolzin and Kravtsov, who have gone much higher. I don't think it is out of the realm of possibility that he could match the same scoring pace this year that Kaprizov had at the same age, and yet he may not even make the list.

Beautiful B.C.
Marchenko is 14 months older.

Leafs fans would be (justifiably) thrilled if Amirov reaches Marchenko's level 14 months from now.
He is 14 months older and drafted 2 years earlier, 2 more seasons to develop. He has 2 seasons to catch up to where Marchenko is now, which I imagine in 2 seasons he will be at that level or surpassed.
Loool yeah, sorry, meant rated as a top 15 pick. Thank you.

Ohh, okay. Yah that makes more sense! haha.

The amount of runway a player has left to improve is based on their physical and mental maturity. Age is always the best guess into that, not draft year.

And no, expecting Amirov to reach Marchenko's level in 14 months from now is not a median guess, that's a very optimistic take.

Marchenko happened to be overlooked as a teenager and was drafted by a team with a smaller HF fanbase. So he's not going to go ahead of the other Russian prospects no matter how much better he is. He can have three times as many points in the KHL and it won't matter.

Keep in mind that for most leagues, the cutoff for entry is just year of birth, including the MHL I believe. Not many of them use the September 15th date that the NHL uses. Marchenko played in the Russia U16 league during the 2015-2016 season, and Amirov played there in the 2016-2017 season. So Marchenko only has one more year of junior and pro experience, even if he was drafted two years earlier.
