======================
I've had an idea. Let's decide who the greatest players in Avalanche history are.
  • You decide what "greatest" means.
  • Only judge players based on their Avalanche careers. This means no extra points for Sakic's time with the Nordiques, or Ray Bourque's time with the Bruins.
  • Poll will be open for a few days.
  • Each time you vote, suggest a player who should be added for the next round.
  • If there's no consensus on who should be added I'll just pick the next player who's played the most games.
  • Here's a list of everyone: Colorado Avalanche all-time player list at hockeydb.com

I voted Drury also. It's strange to think he was only with the Av's for 4 seasons. Always feels like he spent 10 years here before being traded away.

Stastny.

Drury's tenure just wasn't long enough, nor did he produce like Stastny even when here. Only thing Drury has is being a part of a cup winner (also little league I guess).

Drury's reputation for clutch started here. And while he often played third line minutes here, it was only because we had Sakic and Forsberg ahead of him. I actually remember Foppa switching to LW and Drury playing on the second line at times too.

Boy, these are really interesting. I am learning how much higher my opinion of Paul Stastny is than...a lot of other people, apparently.

Also I think my opinion of Yelle -- which I thought was high -- is about 90x lower than ...a lot of other people, apparently.

I suspect this could just be a difference in how people are defining ‘greatest’. I would have a totally different order for the ‘best’ Avs players ever than I do for the ‘greatest’

You might not agree but team success makes a big difference to a lot of people when ranking legacy, as long as the player was a real contributor to that

What would be interesting is seeing where a truly elite Av without a Cup would rank. Deader, Yelle and EJ (though this one is close even though his decline is fresher than his prime) are the only ones on the list so far where I see Stastny as the better/higher quality (but not greater) player

I mean, prime Duchene was clearly a better player than Yelle or Deader lol, but f*** Duchene.

Duchene and Stastny were significantly more impactful players for this organization than Yelle, it's really not even close.

I'm honestly surprised we're at #20 and there are only five Bednar-era players in the results so far, with one on the poll and no others in sight.
